Hammock tip based on what could of been a bad experience I had a few weeks ago.....

1) Never buy a single layer hammock no matter your weight. When one rips and it's the only layer you have you're FUBAR.
2) Never put force on you hammock in a small area. Ripstop my rear!

I was climbing back in from a beer piss at about 3am and put a good deal of weight on my elbow. All I heard was pop, then rip. I got out of it and inspected it. My elbow had created a hold right where my head would go. Luckily I have a 2 layer hammock and only the first layer ripped so I'm pretty sure my mom or a seamstress can fix it.

One of the worst nights sleep Ive ever gotten in a hammock....nothing beats the thought of falling onto the rocks below you as you dangle above them and hear ripping all night whenever the breeze blows.

I typically ALWAYS bring a sew kit with me. I sewed made my first shirt when I was 6 years old - sewed my index finger using the sewing machine. Made my first 'yoked' shirt when I was 12. Reupholstered my first horse buggy seat (tuck and roll) at 13. Reupholstered my first car when I was 18 (bucket seats).

I sew shit all the time. I used to tailor my own suits too since I had something like a big 'drop' (difference between chest size and waist). Most tailors are way to lazy to do that right.

Now a days I typically only sew my camping equipment or my dogs toys! lol

The point I was trying to make is bring a sewing kit! lol

I need to sharpen my daily folder. My DPX Gear HEST folder is a great knife, but I beat the shit out of it.

Camping in heavy wooded areas??

I have not seen this on anybody's gear list or pictures in the past, but it something I added to my safety gear 2 years ago after I've seen numerous news reports of trapped campers or hikers. The most recent forest fire was the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon early this September.
These FSS have been known to save up to 3 adults in one shelter.

Cost is usually under $25, most have been carried but not deployed.

Example only, may not be the cheapest or quality.

Decided I wanted some smaller camp chairs to take up less space in the trailer. After seeing @tx_shooter enjoy his tripod I decided to get a couple. I like them.. comfy!
