Would have liked to see them swap over to the upgraded antenna at 50 miles to show why antenna selection is important. But I understand they were reviewing the "out of the box" product. Still hitting 34 miles with the little stock antenna is good.
I was thinking the exact same thing, waiting for them to switch antennas

I have two NMO mounts in my roof. I have a switch. I think I may have switched it two or three times before I decided I can live without it. :)

Switching between high and low gain antennas? Which antenna did you end up using full time?
I use this when out in the desert

Think I’ve decided on a hood mount 6db antenna for my GMRS setup. I discovered today that Prinsu now makes a roof rack for my truck and I see myself buying one in the future. For that reason I don’t want to drill my roof for an NMO antenna mount.

I'm torn on the Prinsu rack for my truck. I like it but at the same time I dont like the price increase they did on them when CBI took them over. They used to be $350.

Oh for real? I never knew an old price because they never had a model for my truck

Or bed mount at the far end of the bed?

Yeah it was $350 when the original guy first released the XtraCab model for 1st gens. When CBI took over and rereleased them they were $600. Which is bullshit because it uses way less material than other models and costs the same price.

That’s where my CB antenna is and I do not want to run a new coax all the way back there. Ditch bracket would be easier.

Oh, yeah that does kind of suck.

A report from some friends of mine who I converted to GMRS

“So, Rich and I did some field testing this weekend on the GMRS. He had a 3db hood mount up against the windshield, driver side, I had the 6 db magnetic roof and we first made contact when I was South of Rotary Ann on 7 and he was between Deer and Nail on 16. Right at 15 miles line of sight distance through mountainous terrain in Ozarks...pretty impressive. We did notice his cab shadowed RX and TX when he was leading and garbled some, but all in all very impressed with them. We maintained communication clearly about 3-4 miles apart while running trails once when we got separated. I ran scan function leaving LR and on interstate and picked up all kinds of transmissions. I had intended to take the 3 db and swap it out once we got on trails, but forgot it. We ran some really tight trails and the magnetic mount gets a C for holding power with the 32" antenna. Would've worked fine with the 3 db though, but tight trails knocked it loose 3 times.”

Solid feedback. They have any comparisons to the CB quality at the distances? Also not surprised about the shadowing when the cab was in the way.

I have heard good things about the Larsen brake light mount. Everyone says the seal is the biggest thing to take your time with.

He didn’t comment on the difference between CB, but I can tell you that we never got that range with CB in the Ozarks. There have been times when I was in the middle of the convoy and had to relay messages because the guy at the front couldn’t reach the guy in the back.

That brake light mount looks interesting. Is it universal or vehicle specific?

Man I would not want to fuck with the third brake light housing. It's so Chinsy and if you fuck anything up you have to take the headliner out to get to it. The weather stripping seal around it is pretty shitty as well.
