Cutting the cord

A friend told me about Hulu Live today. Its $40 a month, has 50 hours of cloud storage, some decent channels, and it looks like Ranger games will be available with it at no extra cost. Plan to do their trial this weekend. If we like we can cancel our dish( GOD I HATE PAYING FOR IT) right away since we are out of our contract. Only thing we would need to watch on TV out of the living room is a few Chrome sticks or Fire sticks.

Cut the cord awhile back. The big hold up was not being able to record Texans games. My wife loves her football. To solve that problem we have a Tablo, which allows recording of OTA shows. You can then stream those shows to any device that has the Tablo app. The Tablo is a pretty hefty upfront cost for the unit and then you have to buy an external hard drive for it. It streams really well. We even use it to watch live OTA shows on TVs that don't have an antenna.

We have 2 newer gen Fire TVs and an 1st gen FireTV on our 3 TVs. We use Prime, Netflix and have SlingTV to watch some other shows and sports. We use cable internet from Comcast and the speed has been enough to keep up.

As far as saving money goes. Once that upfront hardware cost is done, it saves a little bit. I'm pretty sure I need to give Comcast a call and get on a promo.

And I don't use Kodi.

Get the fire box. It's a million times better than the stick.

I have the first gen Amazon Fire TV in the garage with the game controller and the little one is hooked on the Asphalt 8 racing game. LOL. She likes to see how much damage she can cause.. not really in it to win it just yet. But I do like the box for its cheap video games.

Never heard of that Tablo box.. I used tableau as a BI tool many years ago, never heard of the hardware. Pretty dang cool. Which box did you go with?

I need to make up my mind and start testing some of these systems out so as I can cut the cord by December. The sooner the better IMO.

Hulu live and sling both have 7 day trials. You just need something to stream it on your TV. They also have apps for your phone or tablet to stream from.

I've been looking at options as well. I am currently paying almost $150 a month for tv and internet and that's only one HDTV box in my living room. I have an amazon firestick with kodi loaded on it that I have been using more. I need to call the cable company to see what just the cost of internet would be a month compared to what I'm currently paying. It's sickening to realize how much I throw out on tv money even though I rarely watch it (maybe 5 hours a week tops)

The only way I'd ever pay for cable again is if I lived somewhere I couldn't get decent internet for streaming. My parents have DirecTV because where they live the only internet they can get is satellite and it can't make it through a whole show in 720p without stopping to buffer every few minutes on a good day. And can't do it even on a good day if someone else is online even checking their emails.

They should be able to get NextLink for home Internet now.

I normally use a good sharp knife to cut cordage. A serrated knife will work better.

How did the weekend Hulu test go? I am going to order a Fire device tomorrow. I do not really care for an Alexa in my house but the better Fire devices seem to come with the Alexa remote.

Didnt do it. Need to order a Chromestick or something similar to stream it since the app is not available for a Samsung TV. My brother did give me his log in for Slingtv. messed with it on my phone some and its not bad.

Get the fire TV over the stick. It's worth it due to amount of time you'll save by it being so much faster than the stick.
