Cutting the cord

Still not offering me the $40 deals they offered me before I left but this ones got a few TV channels for a little more & no term agreement so they are getting closer to having me back....Drop it to $40 w/no term and I'd be game. I do miss the instant gratification that having strong wifi provided.

Yeah I pay just $60 a month for 1000mbps. Way more internet than I need but my options here are 1000mbps for $60 or 300mbps for $60 so it was an easy choice.

Yep. Mine went up and I called to complain. I got the same "We can upgrade you to the 1000 for the same price."

"The current price is too high!"

"Here's the number for our loyalty department."

"We can offer you the 1000, you keep the same 10 channel package and we'll drop your bill to $20 below what you were paying before."

"Done deal!"

....now I'm just waiting to get that first bill so I can find out if she was a liar.

Even if it only goes down to what I was paying before, I'll be content for another year.

Xfinity was a 2 year deal, but capped at 1.2TB / month. I currently have unlimited and used something like 87GB in the first 3 days. I guess all that streaming for the kids, video conferences, and TOR browsing really add up!

& thats how they get you. A lifetime of contention.

I'm really stoked to see Elon get into the satellite data game with Starlink. I was listening to him on a podcast the other day and it should become a real game changer for many off the grid people. Seen a few people install it and give reviews but I'm pretty sure the whole systems not 100% yet and it's the initial roll out so they are fixing bugs.

Pre-orders started in our area yesterday, I'm probably gonna preorder one and I will probably drop some coin on the IPO as well.

Ill be keeping a eye on it for sure to see how it ends up working out. So far the reviews I have seen are mixed, but they were beta testers and the system was not 100%. Funny thing is I had no idea Elon was behind it until I started digging into it when I cut the cord. Then I came across the propaganda the cable companies funded to make an uproar over BS light pollution coming from the satellites. Anything they can do to limit competition those scumbags will. Same reason so many of us are in a internet supply monopoly now. I'd applaud just about anyone who gave us more options short of China lol

Tried to download and update my GPS today and it failed twice while I was outside working so maybe the Verizon meter kicked in finially. Garmin sucks for map updates prior to cutting the cord ~ They always took forever when I had a good connection. Proving to be impossibel to update it tethered.

My parents just pre-ordered as well last week. They're currently averaging 3mbps with their current provider.

I have setup my laptop and travel monitor in a Chick-Fil-A a few times for lunch and a meeting. While odd the staff was usually pretty good to work with about it.

I'm going to get cable hooked back up in a month or less so Ill just wait - not like I'm driving anywhere anyway. I don't mind paying $40 a month for web only and I want the house wired up before I list it. Ill need to start putting out resumes, doing video conferences, and a ton of other stuff I haven't needed to do recently so Ill need the speed. Guess Ill have to buy my first webcam as well. Not looking forward to going back to work

Asking for a friend, but if neighbors have wifi and its identified by the router name, download the phone app, use factory router password to gain access.

I could also just ask him for his password. We are very friendly. Was talking to him tonight in the driveway for an hr or so.

He's got cancer and his days are numbered.

Ive been helping the son out with his truck ~ Today was wiring the PIA 510's I gave him for free.

I was laughing my ass off when one of the bulbs was burnt out and he tried to gain access to it and ran into one of my caulk jobs where I sealed everything with commercial structural silicone lol I think he's still picking at it outside

My neighbor has some crap AT&T internet. She is a photographer, her uploads are huge. It was taking her hours at her house. She now comes over regularly to borrow the wifi and uploads in 15-30 minutes. Yeah I could be a dick and tell her to upgrade her internet, but I let her do it. I still wish we had fiber here. Pisses me off that this new subdivision does not have fiber.
