Field Kitchen Build

I searched for ideas on this for quite a while before starting this build. My sammich maker drew out what she would like to be able to store inside the field kitchen so I knew what to build around. So now I have enough progress that it actually kind of resembles a field kitchen frame.

First - the idea for the field kitchen.

So far my sammich maker has sanded down slats from a few pallets for the sides. This weekend we should get them cut to fit and then just about ready to be secured into place. I have been working on getting the frame tacked together for fitment before welding it all together solid. The frame has been built out of 3/4" angle 1/8" thick. I am trying to keep an eye on the overall weight without it being so lite it is unstable.

So the plan is to build the lid tomorrow night. Then I will start figuring out the interior setup.

Quick peek at some of the progress from this weekend. I should start final assembly tomorrow. My sammich maker is very happy with how it is coming together. I have a few things I want to revisit when we get back from BBRSP with it.

Made some serious progress today on the field kitchen. I enlisted the help of my Dad for some of the side work while I was getting the assembly work knocked out. Before I go to bed I will have the hinge marked and drilled, lid fitted and painted, and working on a fix for the front door/ lid. There are a few corners I had to cut around to get it ready for BBRSP this week but they will be addressed when we get back.

Wow, that's starting to look really great! Are you going to use something to protect the steel like bedliner or similar? I know it doesn't need protection from impacts or damage but was wondering about rust.

I used Rustoleum. It worked really well so far. My sammich maker really liked the kitchen box and it made meals much easier.

I still have some finishing work to do but for now it is working.

I like that style. That's on my long list of projects to make one day, I'll have to take a look at yours eventually.

It kept the lid open and was an easy fix the night before we left. Lol

I am already planning to get a "bigger/better" cook stove that my sammich maker likes. Then I will rebuild the kitchen box out of aluminum to help drop weight.
