Does anyone have advice/suggestions for ski mounts on a k9 Eezi-Awn rack? Equipt1.com doesn't have anything specific for skis, but I saw this on the Rhinorack site: Pioneer Ski Carrier Bracket - #43159 | Rhino-Rack
I'm thinking it might work. I'm also tempted to just buy some long bolts, some aluminum bars, and some wing nuts to make my own.

I would think it would fit. It's all just aluminum t-slot attachments.
I'm directly east of you in the LP/Baytown area.
You can check out this thread for one trip I went on. There are some areas to explore around there, but follow the law when it comes to private land signage (there are a few fire roads you go down for a bit and then all of a sudden there's private land signage so you have to find someplace to back up).

If you want them mounted to the rack in normal method the pic below from their website and shows "t" bolts in tracks. I'd grab some of the t bolts and modify an existing ski rack to work with them (remove feet from ski rack and either bolt it direct to rack t bolts or fab a plate up that bolts to both the rack and ski rack). If you want the rack pitched at 75* like the Rhino rack does for ease of use - I'm thinking stay away from home built unless you can weld. I have Rhino racks on my Subaru for 3 years now and I am very happy with that purchase and the quality of the rack and it's accessory hardware. Much less $$$ than Thule and my rack holds more weight than a Thule.

Thanks guys. I'm leaning toward the Rhino small ski carriers (carries two sets of skis) and the angled brackets. My main concern is whether the bolt holes/slots will line up since I'm attempting to put Rhino brackets on the k9 rack. It looks like some dealers are listed as "stores" for Rhino. I might stop by one of them to see if they have anything in stock.

Turns out those "stores" were just car dealers who don't hold any of their products in stock.
And to make things better, when I went to the Rhino Rack web site today to potentially order their rack, I get this ... looks like somebody forgot to pay their domain registration bill.

For anyone still keeping up with my ramblings, have you ever made your own roof rack bins? I've seen others use "Rubbermaid" type bins before by just drilling holes in the bottom and bolting them to the rack. But I haven't figured out how you keep the lids on while flying down the freeway. I'll keep looking but I figured I'd ask here, too.

Use Pelican cases.
^^ This. Watch the local Academy and Wal Mart for a good sale on Pelican cases. You can get the lockable case for the added security against assholes.

Those do look like they'd handle just about anything. How do you secure them to your roof rack? Obviously there's rope, but I'm wondering if there's a way that would deter those same assholes from just lifting the entire case.
Drill a couple of small holes in the bottom. Then use some plates to mount secure it to the cross bars. Make sure to put the head of the bolt on the outside so they cannot just work the nut off.

Or if you have a roof rack with the slots for t-nuts, just put a large fender washer on the inside of the case and attach it to the t-nut.. boom.. tamper proof. Downside is Pelican case are not cheap (hard to drill into something so $$

Good point about the slots. I forget some people have fancy store bought stuff like that. But for the use on a roof I would have no issue using even a Plano case.

Yeah, my k9 has the slots for bolt heads. So I can mount with bolts just about anywhere. I suppose with the nut inside the case, that'd be pretty tamper proof. Well. it may work for a few seasons, but its not water tight and the Sterilite stuff normally turns very brittle under the sun. But the price is right. But a 40 gallon container, that shape on top the vehicle is a bad idea IMO. Keep it low.. plus that thing will be heavy once loaded. Hard to get down.
That shape will be a sail on top of your rig. Low and smooth is the best bet. Otherwise you will need to be aware of overall vehicle height so as you do not try to go through a drive thru and rip off the tub.
