Just interviewed a millennial.

His resume doesn't match what he has on his Fakebook, but that's not a huge deal. All of my info on fakebook is in fact fake as well. Tonight Ill do a deep dive and vet his resume properly. Wanted to meet him first before I wasted my time if he was a bum. I don;t really care all that much about resumes unless they are fake - then I hammer them.

What set off the red flags for me is his amount of time at jobs. 10 months, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months and 15 months are his work history and that averages 7.2 months per job. Kids also taken more time off between jobs at 24 years old than Ive had vacations over my entire career.

I told the boss if he hires him I want no parts of it or his training. Told him we need to hire pro's - and that me and our other PM have no time to hand hold assistants and train them up for years until they can walk on their own. No way I'm teaching anyone my trade secrets so they can compete against me next month when this guy flops to another spot. I thought I bounced around allot having 7 different jobs over 22 years but this guys resume makes mine look good. He's had 5 over 4 years lol

I've had 2 jobs in 12 years. And one of those was just part time for 3 years of high school and college. I've only had one full time job. Been here 8.5 years. A couple more years and I think it'll have run its course.

I get some bouncing around, but if you can't keep a job for a year - you clearly can't deal with bullshit very well and in my position/trade that's the #1 skill you need.

Ive never worked anywhere less than a year just so my resume doesn't look like crap.

Also - the more jobs yoyu have the more times you could of potentially been fired. Ive had 7 jobs but only been fired once and that's because I told the owner to fuck himself and instead of beating me to a pulp he just fired me. I was barley an adult and not wise at all. Learned my lesson from that one for sure ~ Wish I had that job now. One of the best companies Ive ever worked for ruined by my ego and being young/dumb.

Depending on the region, the average career minded white collar folks, the job hop is about every 7-9yrs.

Shit, that's changed to every two-three years now. Work at a job to get the title, stay for awhile, look for a new job to get a promotion and a raise. Then repeat the cycle all over again...

All I know is I'm 0-2 at hiring millennial's. Kid I hired years ago at my old job tried to fight me in the parking lot after my co-worker disciplined him - that was his last day. Kid I hired here a little over a year ago would of been replaced with the guy I interviewed this week had he not been a POS. This kid thats here now has no motivation. He knew we were interviewing a guy but didn't know it was to replace him so as a test last Friday I asked him to meet me at a jobsite Monday at 6am to help me measure 4 floors. He said it was too early and he couldn't make it. He sealed his deal there with ownership and myself. Little did he know it was his last test.

Now I know why the trades are hurting. These kids were raised with gold spoons in their mouths by idiots in my generation so no way they would invest 4 years into an apprenticeship program getting paid crap money and going to school @ night when they can climb into massive debt partying it up at a college without working. In the end they will just take the hard working guys money anyway so maybe they have it right? I dream of the day I retire and take on some silly job that has no stress just top keep me moving/alive - they think thats everyday and they should get 120k to do so

Sadly many companies make that necessary because the only way to get a good promotion is to leave. It is harder and harder to get good vertical movement inside bigger companies now until you get past the tipping point. Then it seems to be stupid easy/fast to get promoted all you want.

I just found out our local is hurting for apprentices so bad they changed the school system around and now I lose two of my apprentices from 2/3 - 5/12.

Historically they worked during the day so they could get paid and had school two nights a week that was "free" but they were not paid to attend.

Now I lose them for months while they attend school daily and get paid to do so. They get paid to go to school and graduate with a bachelors degree in construction management and multiple welding certs. + OSHA and all the other fun certs.

Just reached out to the hall to see if I can work them at night after school or if that would be double dipping and frowned upon.

WTF? I should've gone to high school in NJ then.

WTF? I should've gone to high school in NJ then.

Our local spans DE/PA/NJ in weird sections and is in PA. If I work Northern NJ I must pull 10-20% of my labor from their hall. Same for south and west. I can go east as far as I want till I hit the ocean. Work in international waters off the coast is a totally different animal. I know guys they get picked up by helicopter to go offshore to work.

Everybody hates on millennials (myself included) but you gotta remember who raised them...

A lot of this ^^^^^

There are too many parents who would not let someone be hard on their kid. It has come back as crappy work ethics and no will to succeed.

I know it was mine, but I'm not taking any of the blame since I have no kids lol

we as a nation have allowed the creation of a perpetual nanny state on our watch

if they were getting smarter I wouldn't mind some of that, but at the same time they are getting dumber and thats a receipt for idiocracy to become reality

People like to brag about kids being able to work computers and phones. Those same kids are lost in the sauce when it comes to anything not involving preprogrammed buttons. There is a huge difference between being a good end user and being a good software programmer/ engineer. That difference is being lost today.
