October 6-9 Arkansas hunt for the toothbrush inventor

I talked with a friend tonight who is big into all the HAM stuff. I explained the scenario and intent to him. He said as long as we are setup to use a frequency that does not have a local repeater so we only broadcast hand radio-to-hand radio then we should be under the radar.

His wanting was that there is an entire volunteer Dept of the FCC that does nothing but monitor the airwaves for improper radio usage, illegal usage, and works to locate the parties involved for legal action. This is how those guys get their rocks off. If the actions are bad enough the FCC can confiscate all radios and any permanently mounted equipment with it.

All that said; I am going to invest a little time and money to get my general license for future use. I may or may not start using the hand radio more but at least it is an option.

So; back to planning...

I know, I know it is really good idea.

Side note; there are only few folks who can immeadiate confiscate without warrants; game wardens, Rangers, US Marshal, etc... the FCC has to get a warrant through a US Attn Office just saying.

But once you have a FCC Radio license, you just enabling the FCC the ability to come visit any time day/night for inspection of RF energy per previous court actions, they may inspect inside without warrant but they will need warrant to take the equipment.

Just food for thoughts...

You need to pull tire wheel weights off before entering National Park, lol

Lead killed the minibike & small dirt bike market for years and years.
just wondering how many amateur police are running around checking that you carry a license to operate a Chinese radio in da woods? Jesus Arkansas Nasty Forest....

Id suspect a good deal of the people caught incriminated themselves, just like on social media. Maybe they let their guard down and gave away info. When I listen to my locals on the CB they talk like no ones listening. Kinda funny some of the stuff they say on open airwaves.

Similar to here, where we always have lurkers lurking

Don't forget your local fire marshal too! The only fire-fighters to carry sidearms...only thing they have to say is it's a "life safety issue" and they can do what they want.

It's kind of like the OHV stickers to me. I've never seen game wardens out checking for them and I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for not having one. But for $16 a year I'd rather just get it and not worry about it. Same for the radio. It's like $20 to take the test and is good for 10 years I believe.

So aside from the Gazetteer for Arkansas did anyone find a good source for trail maps in book form?

That's Mr Asshole to you
I have a Delorme book but I didn't even open it last time. Between downloading the areas from Google to my phone and my tablet having a topo app I never needed the book.

Messing with BCN now, one of its map sources is US Forestry Roads. Seems to be a good source for over there. Only deadspots are the areas NOT a national forest. I am messing with its cached maps ability. Its downloading about 120MB of map tiles now.

Upload to DropBox or similar and then post the link.

Check post #1 and there is a KML from @balakay Is it the same one?

Email it to me and I can post to Dropbox later. Then post link.

Will it not allow it to be attached as a file? Might have to try it from laptop instead of mobile device.

That's the app I used last trip. It worked great and was easy to add way points while on the go. I'll be using it again this trip.

It wouldn't let upload one. I had to go with Dropbox as Sean said.

We have time to change the route. The plan is to do something not meant for a stock rig but also not meant for a dedicated trail rig. Seems the hard part is finding the route.
