This was a good learning trip for me as well being that it was my first real trip with the GX. Figured out a few things I need/want to change about my setup. Mostly being fixing my electrical issues with the fridge. Lining out what I need for my dual battery setup and adding an aux fuse block to the rear cargo area. Also need to get my HID headlights from the 4Runner installed. And I'm looking into options for amber lights to help cut through the dust for trips like this. Later on, somewhere down the line after I get these things sorted out, I'll be looking into adding a mounted 2M radio as well as swapping in lighter front coils and heavier rear coils. But those aren't pressing issues at the moment.

Note that in all my videos I was giving music choice to Kenna.. some good some not so good. Makes her feel like a part of the team though.

Learned quite a bit this trip. This was my longest camping trip of this style and I did it with a new setup which took a bit to get used to.
  • I need a fridge as the Yeti and ice didn't quite cut it. It did well except for needing more ice. I also underpacked beer.
  • I need more lights for under the tent over the bed of the truck.
  • I need to move my spare tire out of the bed to make room for gear. Inside the truck I only had room for me and my boy. The roof rack will help with that a bit for storage once that comes in. A rear bumper with swing out will fix the it altogether.
  • I need sheets for the RTT mattress. Bought them tonight, 40% off some ugly color.
  • I need a better mounting setup for the 2M handheld. Looking at options for ram mounts to fix to the Tech Deck.
The fridge is a game changer. I enjoy mine...A LOT.

I enjoyed my set up for this trip but my MSR stove is a little more work than I wanted. It works great but a little bit of a pain to get it started and pump to keep it going.
My Snow Peak butane burner will probable take its place since it literally takes seconds to set up and start. I also used my Snow Peak when I got home to cook my last hobo meal and it worked great. I will keep the MSR for higher elevation camping trips.
I also need a folding camp toilet.

Something nobody has mentioned yet - the tablet with Back Country Navigator. I am getting some info together to do a thread for BCN in the near future.

I only saw it for a brief period but that was awesome. I need to upgrade mine. Amazing how a top of the line model drops fast after a couple years. :(

So US Topo did not perform well on my tablet. It worked better on my phone. I will be buying BCN app before my next trip.

@bakerla was running BCN like I was; but he had the US Forest Maps vs my US Topo maps. The additional road info, forest road, and some logging roads made for a lot better map in that situation.

Good question. I still need to get my camera out of my truck. I have very few pictures. Most are from coming down that hill at lunch the first day and some of the water crossing at lunch on day 2.

I use Zoom for my excuse when that happens! lol

Its true.. at least I didn't post some of the ride home videos with Katy Perry in the background. That being said when it comes to music Katy Perry has a great set of tits. That also being said I can now probably sing along to any Katy Perry song. Like I couldn't before. :)
