I'll take those straps if they're still around, I've not yet come up with s good way to mount a gas tank skid without them

Send me a PM with your address. :)

Mr Brown brought the winch motor today.

Little taller than the Warn motor, but the splines are identical and the distance from the bearings to the end of the shaft and the height of the case are the same so I'm anticipating zero fitment issues.

Got some ideas on how to waterproof the motor and keep her breathing before I install it. Looks like the old Warn wasn't a fan of the NJ water lol

Warn provides 4 holes in the case so you can clock the winch. Looks to me like the majority of the water cam in through the lower hole that had no screws in it.
The corrosion is also exactly in between the 2 factory vents.

Lower hole full of mud right next to one of two vents (gaps in the case when it's all assembled)

Warn screws have very short insulation on them. The one screw to the left looks to have taken an arc at the end of the insulation at one point.

Be careful with which holes you seal up. Not sure if the m8000 is the same as my 9.5xp but the mounting configuration determines which holes to seal and which one to leave as drains. If you seal them all you will trap moisture and if you seal the wrong ones you will collect water in there. Did Chris give you a manual with the winch? Feet forward vs feet down mount determine which holes to seal

I'm sealing them all. Everything will be sealed so no moisture gets in. The moisture that does build from temp difference and gases produced from getting hot will be handled through a breather. Simply drill and tap a hole in the case, thread in fitting, attach rubber hose, zip tie to engine bay, put breather on end, & drink a beer. I haven't read what others do, but that's my plan.

That sounds like a good plan! I have a missing clutch bolt (long one that holds the clutch assembly on) that I noticed and need to contact Warn to get. I like that idea of the breather tube, need to do that once I get that replacement bolt. (after I pull it all apart and clean it up again)

I had the old and new apart last night trying to figure out why the motor looked so bad and how to prevent it. The guy I got it from did not use his truck as a boat like I have and he took very good care of all his gear. Once I noticed all the clues in front of my face I easily determined drain holes would never work for me. That got me thinking that I would trash the winch on my first trip if I didn't do something to seal it. Once I seal the case the only way for water to get in is where the shaft bearing seats into the housing so I'm going to slap some marine grease on that and hope for the best. It's a very tight fit so it should be minimal if anything.

Who knows if it will work, but I only have about $140 into the set up at this point so no major loss if I fry it and need another $100 motor. Ive never had a winch before and never had an issue so I can do without one. I'm really thinking it's going to only get me in trouble by doing stupid shit I know I shouldn't be doing anyway. That's the same reason I don't wear a helmet skiing - I'd feel indestructible if I had one lol

The beer is the best part of that plan.

Now that you're here thinking I actually did some work to my truck....LOL.... click on the link below and help a brother out. 1 click to vote after getting on the site is all it needs. It won't redirect or mess with you - just calc the vote. It's a higher end pizza & beer chain Ive been working on for a few years and one of the prototypes is up for a design award. This is one of the first 4 prototype stores we did. Now I'm working on the other 180 stores.

No; the part where Oswego had a rig.

"Had" being the key word. She's been inoperable for 1 year and screwed up for 4 or more previous to that.

Still not a problem; my old 4R has not been wheeled since Jambo 2014. But now it is back in the garage getting worked on and Amazon is delivering a battery tomorrow for it. Then it will be closer to a running rig again.

Yea, I need a swift kick in the ass to get some motivation. Having a separate DD doesn't help at all. Now that psutaco is putting up a pole barn sooner than later I might just tow it down to his house to swap it over. Not somthing I really want to do in my backyard in the grass for my first engine swap. I can see myself spending more time looking for bolts in the grass that actually working.
