Before I read the whole thing I was thinking "WTF.. A Tasco scope?"

There are a few other interesting things around the whole scenario. The story did not do a good job explaining it - the sniper team that recovered the rifle was made up of one shooter from 3/5 and one from 2/4 who transfered to 3/5. The rifle was retired last I heard. It was used against American forces for quiet a while. There are lots of speculations as to what happened to the original sniper team that allowed them and their security team to get killed.

Yeah I've read a couple of different scenarios about it as well.
