Well my boat isn't really like a big boat or anything. its one of those little metal ones. Its like 3-4 feet wide. It doesn't have a motor. It runs on elbow grease. Is it still ok to bring? I kinda want to try and fit it in the bed of the taco. I think it might work if I clamp it down.
Probably not a good boat for the coast

If the surf is anything like it was the last few days that boat would be toast. It would be best to leave it at home. I think with the storm in the Gulf was causing the waves to be bigger and the crazy amount of sea weed. There was sooo much it made fishing impossible.

i say do a little more research on boating out there. from what i've read Bird Island Basin has a boat launch ramp (not that your boat would need it) and has a rental place to rent kayaks and windsurf boards. while the boat might not be good for the gulf side of the island, the waters on the back side of the island might be ok. http://www.nps.gov/pais/planyourvisit/bird_island_basin.htm

but i haven't been there, so i can't say from experience

The bay can still get pretty choppy. The biggest part is that we'll be a good distance from the Bird Island Basin area. Ocean Kayaks are great, but anything else will be pretty out of place on this trip.

Wanted to give an update on the driving conditions from the last few days.
Got there around 11 on Thursday and aired down to about 20psi. Went all the way down to about 37 miles and set up camp. Did not need 4wd at all. Coming back on Friday was a little different. The tide was way up and I had to drive in the softer sand. I put it in 4wd for a few miles around the 25 mile mark but a prerunner probable would have worked if they kept the speed up.
I used a 1/2 tank of gas going down that far and back. I could see how extra gas would be a must have if you went all the way down to the cut.
Did not see 1 jelly fish or tar ball. The seaweed was terrible. I think I pulled 10 pounds of it from under my truck yesterday. I also found out that dried seaweed makes a great firestarter.

I know this is a stupid question:confused: but are you guys tent camping at the beach? September is going to be hot and rainy hurricane season around that time. Mustang Island is not far from that place right.:p

I will second the baby powder trick. Also having a bucket of water out side of your tent to dip your feet into will help keep sand out of your tent. Depending how far down the beach we camp you could be 3 hours away at Mustang Island SP.

I've done that before, but the last time I did that, the water would glow every time I put my feet in. Was some sort of florescent algae or something.
yeah if you get out there and stomp you feet the splash will glow (pretty cool back in high school on shrooms).....lol

I usually bring gold bond or baby power. It gets the sand off better than anything else.

That a good idea some one told me to do that. I have the reservation worse thing is I loose $16 a night if the weather is nice and pleasant I guess we will tent camp bring the generator and a fan. Hey I can also try the hammock and do the trick some one told me. Okay now we have a plan.

going through basic training back in the day, we used to call gold bond "crack for your balls". the cool sensation just couldn't be beat.

yea sand can be a pain in ass, especially if it gets in your underwear. i've got a 19.2 volt craftsman cordless dust vac that does wonders for getting sand out of the tent. bring an extra tarp to place in front of the tent too.
