I separated the insurance years ago too, my mortgage company (BSI financial) continuously screwed up and never sent a check to my insurance company, so more than once I got a letter from insurance saying they never got paid and they were going to drop me. Then I would get a letter from my mortgage company saying that I my insurance company sent them a letter to tell them my insurance was going to be cancelled and I needed to provide proof of insurance since I had a mortgage. I'm like, "don't you two idiots talk?!" . Why I was paying them to only send money to someone else (and fail to do so) just seemed silly. The escrow system is designed for people who can't set aside and save money on their own. I have not had a problem on any late payments since I divorced the insurance and taxes from escrow, funny how that works.
