I got no more excuses now..... house is stocked w/everything "I think I need" for the siding/sheathing/re-framing portion of work.

Sure there will be a thousand things I forgot because I'm no framer, but studs insulation, and plywood will not be one of them.

Never again will I own a house w/o a garage. I'd actually like to flip the next purchase and buy a garage w/o a house lol

Ran the new pump for a half hr on low pressure just to break her in while I did my handrails. Then cranked her up to 3/4 and got my deck done, the Tacoma, my riding lawnmower, and 1/4 of my house (side that never see's sun). Today was a good day for it. 60* out w/40mph winds.

Engine is running happy on some new premium 92 octane ethanol gas. Almost killed 5 gallons worth. Should of stayed at it and gotten all my sidewalks done, but I was soaked to the bone and had enough for one day. Only so much looking strait down at my feet I can do before my back starts binding up. Tomorrow will be 19* so I blew out the water from the washer and Ill store it indoors for now in my kitchen or bedroom (need a heated garage) lol

Spoke to my neighbor today about painting my house so it all matches and he said he can do it any temp above freezing so thats cool. The old aluminum is still in good shape and I was able to match the profile with new vinyl so the new will be white and the yellow - white eventually. He's been painting his every few years and it hold up good. He just changes colors all the time when he has extra paint and is bored.

Soon as I demo the south side Ill reuse some of that siding to replace the screwed up stuff under my sliding door than have him paint it all.

Sprayed some wet & forget on the deck prior to going to my sisters house for Christmas yesterday

In early spring I had sprayed it all w/wet & forget and hand scrubbed about 2/3 of it, but like everything back then I never finished. Pic above is a bad spot that never got scrubbed. It was slicker than ice when wet and never really dried (never sees sun)

because I used a low pressure on Christmas eve as to not tear up the old wood it left some green behind

this morning thats all gone. wood looks light because it's completely frozen (22* here now)

Got the neighbors kid lined up to be this coming weeks gopher for when I actually start demo tomorrow. My nephews are skiing in VT. Needed some unskilled help slinging the new plywood sheets after we demo & his jobs seasonal/currently off season. Soon as I asked how much he wanted he offered to work for free because Ive loaned him about 50 tools and a few hrs time advising this past weekend on his truck (me sitting there watching him work telling him he's doing it wrong while I drank beer lol). I advised him on proper negotiation tactics, told him he would get paid by the task, and offered him $200. He eagerly agreed. Told him to meet me here at 8am with a hammer, gloves, and some thick clothes for the insulation demo & thats I'd supply the masks lol

Little does he know he's the insulation removal guy - screw that crap lol I'm still itchy from last week and I have tyvek on from head to toe

Commiecast is on my shit list today.

This is one of the 4 cables installed improperly by them prior to my ownership.

upload_2020-12-28_18-5-38.png

I wasn't planning on jacking up my house so I could replace sections of sill plate/etc. but it is what it is when the cable guy has his head up his ass. Ill also take some blame since I left it all like that for years lol

that shit stopped today though.

luckily all my floor joists run parallel to this so nothing was tied into it.

slowed down progress a ton so tomorrow we will need to hit it harder.

found more than one bay o this side of this house completely lacking any/all forms of insulation. Just open cavities.

also never run the sill trim work past the vertical trim work on the bottom of windows when you side them - that style is for interior trim work only. Verticals must run through or you get this kinda crap.

I now fully understand and agree that home owners should always pull permits. Holy cow did everyone who touched this house screw it up with poor craftsmanship.

and I know there are a few things off in the pic like tyvek tape on the plywood seams & round pegs in square holes etc. (and a ton more lol) but it is what it is and still meets code. This is just the beginning. If I could of gotten some zip sheathing I would have.

Got a little more work on this area tomorrow then I go vertical and everything is on ladders above this new sheathing.

I ended up deciding to ask for forgiveness vs asking for permission regarding window and door removal.

This is the door hole Ill eventually frame for a window, but I did not want to really piss them off by jumping the gun and doing that "window" framing now prior to my construction permit being issued.

Jack studs were rotten so they had to be replaced and I needed studs to hold insulation so I threw the rest in lol

Hopefully the inspector realizes I'm in the middle of a crappy spot. He wants the house closed in and the other people want permits/plans/red tape.

also found out every corner was blocked so it has no insulation and I found another bay w/zero insulation in it today....oh and wherever interior walls run - yea no insulation in those cavities either. Just a flipped stud against the sheathing.

Here I am having one of the most efficient houses in regards to natural gas and electricity use and it's in a house with holes everywhere. Once this things insulated properly and Ive replaced all the leaky windows this place should be pretty well off for the next dope.

I am not a fan of framing standards from the 60's in this hood. Nothing above 8' is 16" on center, level, or designed right IMHO. (1) Nail secures the top of each 2x4 you can see. They also are not notched so you can move them by hand. The good news is they are held in place with 1/4" plywood for shear strength so it's all good ......

No wonder why this POS always creaks with the smallest breeze. I need to get out of this before the next hurricane blows it down or someone else's into mine

Expecting freezing rain and snow the next few days so we temporarily "dried her in" lol

upload_2020-12-30_18-30-32.png

No way I'll be making the inspectors deadline so we shall see how this works out. I let it stress me out at first but I'm over that now. Ill continue to be truthful yet guarded with what I tell them. Figure I might call tomorrow and let them know I will not be making it or just say nothing and pray no one notices I'm not done yet. Ill prob do nothing as to not draw attention

Might need to get a dumpster if this keeps up. I just double checked that everything meets compliance and as far as I can tell everything meets it.

trash guys refused to take anything today. Kinda sucks since it's raining and they are all filling up with water + I now have no room for the next round of demo.

just got off the phone w/the town. Told the manager I don't want to make a fuss or get anyone in trouble - I just want to comply so that they will take it.

Probably because they will get their ass in trouble for dumbing lumber in the trash truck. Apparently it can bind up the compacter and fuck it up. The guy that picks ours up at the shop has a shit fit when my guys toss pallets in lol

That might be it. We are told we can throw out whatever we want on trash day. Which reminds me, its tomorrow and I have a old pool side umbrella I need to take out there. :)

Started on some fence posts near the shop, took about 8mins to dig these 3 holes, I really like using the newly acquired PHD, definitely a back saver. Still waiting on my 6 rolls/.25 mile, lol of fencing from TSC.

Over in Bryan I've seen people stack lumber scraps etc on the curb and a different truck with a grapple arm on it comes and picks ut up.

We still get the lazy trash guys who "forget" to pick up bagged up garbage outside the can... like the large 55 gallon contractor bags full of 'stuff"... not really lumber or anything. Doesn't happen much here but it happens.

That's how it is here. Except they only do it one time each month for each neighborhood. Or you can pay an extra $35 if you want them to come do it off the normal route.

When I bought two new TV's back in November they each came with enough cardboard and foam to build a homeless shelter and then a boat for it. I took the cardboard to the local recycle center and had to slid the giant pieces of cardboard through a 6" slot 4' wide into a container that was already full. What a PITA... almost made me want to just load it back up and hit the county roads at 75 MPH and let the wind take care of it. Styrofoam was broken into smaller pieces and put into contractor bags.. problem was that even though they were full they only weighed 3 pounds each. lol But they got picked up.

Lady at the town never called me back so I'm not sure. The majority of it is perfectly fine. Only thing I can think of is the wood thats longer than 4'.

Those 'shouldn't' be the issue here. My recycle flyer specifically states normal weekly pick up for wood ripped no longer than 4', no nails, stacked curbside. Not like this is bad wood either. 99% of it is raw wood with no paint/stain/nails. Only painted wood is interior trim work for the window and door + door frame.

Ever since Waste Management took over the contract it's been a total shit show. Two weeks ago they pulled some stainless steel cables out of one of my cans and threw them on the ground because they felt like they shouldn't; take it. I check the list and no mention of it being restricted.

Bad enough to deal with neighbors who are doing construction like me so the last thing I need is to add to the frustration with my trash piles out front.

That said - if the trash people won't take it as trash then it's not trash so then I can burn it right? I'm not allowed to burn "trash" legally.

down to one cans worth left I need to burn. I need to get my hands on a 50 gallon drum

I just take that kinda shit to my shop and toss it on a trailer then make my lawn guy haul it to the landfill lol
