Mine is a GC motor, not a GX. That is probably the difference in cost. Not a 9 horse motor.

Honestly I could only find one source that even sold the whole carb. Everywhere else only sells parts and they are pricey.

Kinda amazing considering how popular the GX series is commercially worldwide. There are entire generations of china clones of this engine so finding a china carb is easy peasy. Honda not so much.

I guess if you can make an engine that can go 14 years of heavy use and 6 more sitting before it has issues and when it does have issues it's not the machine it's dirty fuel that takes it down - you don't need to sell many parts for it

On another note just got back from Sherwin Williams grabbing stain supplies. I needed some rollers & the stain.

The only times I ever shop there is for work or when my neighbor lets me use his account. Public price per gallon $59.... subcontractor price per gallon $34.

Head building code dude called me last night with questions as he was reviewing my plans. Had a good conversation. I picked his brain and got some good advice. Hopefully one of his minions contacts me today with the total so I can drop a check off and then they can mail me the permit. Oh and in less than a week my neighbor's house sold for 40k over Zillow's estimate

Oh and an important code note I never knew before that some of you may gain value from (I know I did ~ never heard of these codes in commercial construction) ....

Every bedroom requires duel egress for some reason and from top of finished floor to top of open window sill must be no more than 44" for egress.

I only submitted framing drawings because thats all that was required so the code guy called to tell me the code and question that dimension in my drawings since I did not show them. I suspect the drawings will have that code noted on them. Luckily in my SE facing bedroom I'm putting a 42" window on the S side because the 36" window on the E side would not sit low enough on its own.

Yep pretty standard for residential windows. I know there's a sq.in. requirement per bedroom window here in Texas for egress.

Hmm wonder if I will have to replace the windows in my house before selling it. I live outside any city limit though. The front two bedrooms have solid windows. The rest either have a second door or opening windows.

As long as you bought the house that way, you are considered to be grandfathered in. If you make any modifications that include the windows, they need to be updated.

That is good. I do not feel like putting more into this house than absolutely necessary when getting out of it.

You'll probably get dinged for it on your home inspection report but you won't be required to fix it.

I've got one room I took a slider out of and put a window in that matched original about 15 years ago. Original didn't need to meet egress codes. I guess that's why they want you pulling permits for that stuff lol. Sill height on the original is 49".....whoops. or maybe back then it wasn't code.

I ordered a replacement Honda carb for it. It was about 30% more in price than a China knockoff, but still only $28 :) I should go to QT and fill up my 5 gallon jerry cans with the non-ethanol stuff. Should do it fast before Xiden has gas at $5 a gallon.
Man that was easy peasy. Swapped carb, new one had adjustments for air and fuel... didn't touch it. Swapped plug and installed a fuel filter. Gave it a shot of starter fluid the first time and she fired right up.

Weather is not cooperating this afternoon so I'm revising my drawings so I can use them as fab/as builts. I got lucky and can just throw a 2x4 under the existing headers to get heights within code. Kinda sucks because I have three rooms with windows on that side and would like them all the same height. Master bedroom windows I replaced a decade ago will be 1-3/4" higher but they are 12' away so shouldn't look all that bad. Most prob won't even see it. Going to lower the new window location in the den to match the other new spare bedroom window because those are only 6' away. The next few weeks are going to be crazy. Will be nice to start seeing major changes. I miss my southern windows...

1 done, 5 to go. Got everything within 1/16" and that was fun for a pos 60yo track house.

I gotta call the inspector and find out what inspections I need. I'd like to throw the window in now to get light back if I don't need any inspections. Will suck if I need to wait. Just realized if I need to wait every east window and 2/3 of my south windows will be plywood covered waiting for framing inspection. Already too freaking dark in here.

That is insane having to wait on a million inspections. No wonder construction can take forever.

I never got a permit for anything I did to my house lol. Better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. Worst case I pay the permit fee when I move out.
