Anyone ever switched from an asphalt driveway to gravel? It used to be gravel and my dad thought asphalt would be better, but it totally sucks and I wish he had never done it. Can I somehow grind up the asphalt and make it into gravel?

You can do anything you want to...just takes money.

But yes, you can have the asphalt dug up and replaced with gravel.

if it was done poorly it could be cracking or settling uneven?

2 different materials, it will never mix or adhear to each other, recycled asphalt materials are horrible IMO, limestone base materials interlock with each other much better, the materials will bond together like concrete with the addition of stabilize sand or adding lime.

I think he is referring to recycled asphalt tailings, IDK, I may be wrong.

I know I can have the asphalt dug up and replaced, I was wondering if there’s any sort of equipment I could rent to just grind up the asphalt and make it into a gravel surface.

Whoever poured the driveway did it incredibly poorly. We discovered it is only an inch and a half to two inches thick when the concrete truck drove on it and it completely buckled. The plan now is to rent a 3 ton roller to come press it back down flat but that’s clearly just a temporary fix. Of course the concrete company is refusing to pay for any repairs to the driveway.

Asphalt contractors are the scum of the earth. Always had issues with them...I think all those asphalt fumes scrambles their brains and morals...

The contractor that did a main road in my subdivision argued that the asphalt his crew put down was a minimum of 2" in most places and up to 3" at a total average. We did a few drill and measure samples that proved him wrong and he still fought it. The whole thing was crap. I hope he gets what he has earned sooner than later.

Bust it up and hual it all off, use tooth bucket with tractor or skidsteer, load in dump trailer, or someone off CL may show up to put on thier trailer.

You need a skid steer cold planer attachment.

Worked on my house on Saturday. It ended up being a really nice morning with a cool breeze so I decided to work on my pier instead of working inside the house where it was hot. I screwed in all the loose boards and middle supports boards as a temporary fix. I also anchored down my fish cleaning table since all the carbon steel screws had rusted out and it was wobbly/falling apart. I took off all the fishing rod holders around the pier so people will hopefully stop using my pier when I'm not there. And it'll help keep subcontractors off the pier as well once they come out to start working on my house (I want them to work and not fish on my time )

Turns out my boat lift still works! Finally took a minute to mess around with the controls. Although I'd doubt that it could lift a heavy boat at this time. I can't believe the motor still works since it's just a ball of rust.

Well the breeze stopped around 11AM so I went back inside the house and turned on all the fans. I took out the remaining sheetrock nails out of the ceiling joists and all of the trim nails around the base boards in the upstairs. There was also quite a few baseboard nails left downstairs that I took out as well since my nephew didn't know how to get those thinner nails out.

So I got a lot of tedious shit done but it sure doesn't feel like it sometimes.

I think everyone should have a spare cap - for $30 you could save yourself $300 or more when the guy in the truck arrives at your home on a hot day. What did they whack you for that one?

I agree, I hate paying for technicians or repairmen when I know I can do the work myself. I went local supply house for the repair parts and ordered online for the spares so I'm out $90 total for 2 relays and 2 contactors. I should be set for another 10 years (assuming my coils don't leak). Last year I had replaced the inducer motor for a cost of around $60. The system is about 13 years old so I'm hoping to get at least another 5 years out of it, making it to 20 years would be nice.

Yep, I ordered an extra one for my house after my cap went out because I lost a leg of power from the transformer (it came loose). Mine was $13.

We just went down for half a day on Sunday and then a full day on Tuesday. The house was too small to sleep everyone comfortably.
