Last nights haul. Three biggest are the ones were holding. Ones on the ground are smaller. Still only got about 10 or 12 but the size of them is a lot better than last week. Water is still a little muddier than we'd like and we were having electrical issues with the lights so we were all 4 hunting off the left side of the boat. If we had lights on the right side we would have had quite a few more shots at the runners. Hopefully he'll get the lights working/replaced this week and we'll be good to go for the next trip. Bowfishing is slowly becoming one of my favorite activities. Going to have to rig up my own bow soon.

It's a blast! If you get a good night with clear, calm water you can shoot 100+ in just a few hours. We hit the carp spawning last year around the beginning of May and if the water hadn't been so muddy from the rain storm a few days before, we probably could have gotten 200+. We did manage to get a nice 46lb buffalo that night with a blind shot into a wake. Pure luck but it made the trip worth it.

Several years ago when I was bowfishing several times a week we would put the fish in a trash can with some ice. The next morning when we got done we would take the fish to a friends neighbor. She was this old black lady that actually bought carp and buffalo from the Asian market. She offered to cook some for us a few times but we declined. Those things are nasty.
I will say that I saw a clever way to clean gar and its pretty much like removing back strap from a deer. Tin snips to cut the scales. The video I saw the meat was very white and looked good. It appeared they made a crab cake looking thing with the meat.

Shit the biggest hog killed at my ranch was 320+ and was killed with a 223. 308 will do the trick

I got 7 of em in one day beating my current record of 6 in a day. I was putting my paddle away for the day and another one came scurrying over.

Everyone I've talked to says the bigger the better. They said anything under 20 lbs isn't good. Except alligator gar, they said you can go as low as 10 lbs.
