At the family farm and at the ranch, I don't even mess with game cameras anymore, probably for the last 3yrs, my bother still sets them up all over though. I used to be big on using game cameras, occasionally he shares the pictures with me.
I'm more focus on actual hunting and harvesting Mature and Legal game animals than shooting an animal based off antler size now days. Don't get me wrong if monster 30 point buck shows up, I would drop him. In the past 15yrs of hunting, (game cameras popularity) I have experience that 50% of the bucks I have shot were never even capture on game cameras. I have caught myself in the past seeking a buck that appears on camera and I have spotted this buck at great distances, and let some other awesome bucks pass by right in front of me because I felt the need to wait and shoot that big buck captured on game camera.
I will use a camera at a new location, like the lottery hunts that I got 2 years in a row, so I know what type of animals/exotics are out there.
Bottom line, my great Unkle told patience is key but more importantly "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
My game cameras are used for my personal property now and front gate.
