so what's the "real" deal with these armed IRS agents.

Is there a new need for armed IRS agents, or are people making a stink over nothing?

I talked with a retired IRS agent last week about this. He said the statement that a % is to replace outgoing agents is BS. Those numbers are already accounted for by HR and manpower staffing.

This is the third article I have seen about this. I have messaged a few people I know in the card processing industry to see if they know more.

Kinda surprised they weren't doing this already sadly...

I'm honestly torn on the matter. If it were simply to categorize and potentially look for "red flags" then I could see there being some benefit. Also, could help someone budget and figure out just how much they are spending.

Example 1: A young kid purchases an AR and 5k rounds of ammo and has never had a gun/ammo purchase before....yeah, let's look into that. Most people aren't buying but 20-100 rounds at a time when they are first dabbling in gun ownership.

Example 2: @Silverback buys 5000 rounds of ammo and has done so on a monthly basis for the last 20 years. No threat, but he could find out that he is spending entirely too much money on ammunition. He now starts figuring out that it would be cheaper to reload.

On the flip side of that, we all know how poorly the "red flag" laws went. We also know that it won't stop at that. This is just the first step into monitoring our daily lives.

Example 3: @tx_shooter get's a crazy dude with a fat girlfriend and accuses him of making violent threats. They look at his CC records and discover an alarming number of firearms and ammunition purchased over the last few years. There is no "real" threat, but he still gets an unwelcomed visit.

Example 4: ATF decides to look at @Anathollo CC history and gets an instant boner. The End.

(Edit: calling out usernames was meant to be funny. Nothing more)

Yeah, red flag laws have already been abused against veterans. They became just another reason Vets with PTSD refused or stopped going to get help..

lol well lately it's been all house purchases. I think I've only bought a couple of gun items so far this year. :(

But instead of spying on citizens and what they are doing with their hard-earned, already-taxed paychecks, we should take the money needed to set-up the infrastructure for this program and put it towards mental health facilities, doctors, research and advertising. That will have a far better return on our taxes dollars than another spy system.
