Hmm I like the hypo. What level of drunk are we talking? Fall asleep at the wheel and possibly kill self, friend, and others or just over the legal limit?
If I'm passed out I have no choice to make, if I'm just over the limit then hell yeah I'm taking him to the hospital. Now the consequence of that would hopefully just be a DWI and no harm to others. It would also have been a choice I made that did not effect anyone else. Torture is a choice made for someone else against their will. The tortured individual suffers consequences not by any personal choice vs me dining and driving would be my choice to gamble punishment.

I think common sense would stipulate that you thought you were sober enough to drive and not harm others. I would also argue that as soon as you decided to take up arms and become an enemy combatant you have accepted the risk of torture (Ask and POW*).

As far as Muslim's cultivating hate. One of my best friends in High School was the oldest son of 13 children. The father was a Palestinian and the mom an Italian Catholic. The father was a great guy with the exception of hating all Jews - he tried to instill that in his kids but the mom was too powerful to let that shit settle in too deep.

One nice thing about me spewing my opinion for so long, I feel no need to share right now because I think you all know where my heads at. Love me or hate me, I'm good with that.

So there is a kid down the street and he was on my daughters soccer team a few years ago. Kid was a shitbag.. would stop playing and sit on the field, throw his little chair onto the field after the game ala Bobby Knight, kick over water bottles... just a turd. Parents not much better, very nice home, nice cars... when these things happened the parents could care less. NEVER said stop or get over here... nothing. Well at the end of the season the coach handed out all the trophies. Kid down the street never showed up to get his. Coach gives his to me because he knows he is a neighbor. I threw it in the trash.

I am surprised nobody has brought up that San Francisco is "giving away free college educations" now. I had a few discussions about it yesterday and sadly people seem to be okay with taxing specific groups if it means they can get something for free. The disconnect between taxing them and taxing me seems to be very real for most people. The majority of people said that anyone who can afford a $5m home will never notice an extra 2% property tax. My response was the hell they would not notice. People who know how to manage their money like that are very aware of new expenses and why they have them.

Ah, I did not assume anything for the hypothetical. Well then yeah, I would certainly drive. That is still me only making a decision that is for myself though. I would agree with that, if you play the game you have to be ready to lose sometimes. However, torture is not strictly used on POW or anyone related to the army, could be anyone.

The hypothetical was presented as a situation that you would break the law to save lives...like torture used to extract information. You can then extrapolate outward that our government will risk breaking the law to save millions of lives. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be charged of war crimes but the preservation of human life is the highest "law" of our civilization and if done for a just cause should usurp other laws (but consequences can still be realized).

Very clearly the judicial branch. trump claims the EO is un-reviewable by the judicial branch and therefore they have no say in it. That is a direct violation of the system of checks and balances granted by the constitution.

In short, he is saying he has the power to do what he wants with an executive order and can make one that the judicial branch cannot review. That goes against the constitution. If you need me to explain it another way I will happily do so.

Not so clear, he actually read the LAW that grants him the powers he is exercising as POTUS. He is not trying to circumvent the court, just bringing attention to how politicized they have become and are legislating from the bench...which ironically IS actually against the constitution.

ASTM just won itself a BIG one and the little guys are getting screwed IMHO. I tend to not agree with the courts ruling, but I understand it. What the courts don't get is that when a manufacturer sits on one of these advisory boards we do so with the intent it will not make money for our company and in no way should the standards be one sided towards one manufacturers items. Even the testing agancies we use do it for free or we get our companies to donate the funds for testing. Ive been siting on a board re-writing building codes for 3 years now and while I do it for free, it is done on company time. I have no idea how my hard work at my companies expense makes ASTM money? That makes my head spin. Maybe Ill ask the board chair if I can start collecting a portion of ASTM's profits? that will never happen. I pass ASTM's HQ almost weekly...maybe Ill stop in and ask
