FBI reopens Clinton email investigation after new messages emerge
WASHINGTON — The FBI is reopening its investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server after discovering new emails, it announced Friday, a bombshell revelation with less than two weeks until election day.
"In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation," FBI Director James Comey wrote in a letter to top congressional committees Friday, announcing that he agreed that the FBI should "take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation."
It's unclear what those emails contain, or how much the late-breaking discovery of emails could reshape a race that was looking like a solid Clinton victory with just 11 days to go until the election. But the news casts a cloud over Democrats' hopes for a big election night, casting doubt over what was looking like a near-lock for a Clinton win, and all but guaranteeing more continued heavy investigations of Clinton by congressional Republicans if she does hang on to become president.
- I hope I get to laugh that night.
