That's fiscally retarded. The states that did that in the past caught an insignificant amount of recipients using and found that the testing cost were not even close to offset by the people being denied for having drugs in their system.
Small conservative government would never do that.

Maybe one day we will learn to treat the mentally ill and drug addicts vs criminalize and jail them. A country is only as good as it treats it's citizens that are the worst off.
Just put a time limit on the length of benefits and decrease the amount of pure shit you can use the welfare funds on. Don't create more gubment and get involved in peoples personal lives more. Thats anti conservative IMO.
I am 50/50 on welfare testing. I know some people who abuse the hell out of the system and I know people who worked hard and are now embarrassed they are having to accept help. I still argue that social aide should be done on the state/local level. The Federal government should have nothing to do with it.
If the citizens of state vote to spend their money doing drug testing; they more power to them/State. That is a state's right to do how they see fit under the 10th Amendment.

I read an article about a few states starting to require people on unemployment or food stamp benefits contribute with community service or attend job training classes. I cant remember what the requirements were but it dropped the amount the state was spending on benefits.
