I think the question is "how?"

For a lot of those homeless, some form of drug prevention as opposed to encouragement would be beneficial. I'd rather see the government use resources to help those people get sober and get some training. Giving free housing and safe places to get high isn't helping anyone.

I don't think the answer is increasing minimum wage either. That just drives up the cost and makes it harder for lower and higher earners alike.

In all honesty, it ticks me off to know that I spent thousands on a college education and professional certifications/training and some plumbers and electricians make more annually than I do. But then I commend them for becoming masters of their trade and wonder if I made the correct choices. Then I look at my family and our situation and realize that we are doing just fine.

Point is: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

point being, you made the choice to better yourself and figured out how, so can they. Maybe if homeless they are starting further down the barrel than most but that’s just how life is. If we cut off the free high houses and shelters, they’ll be forced to look for work or die.

1000% agree. People can do some incredible things when the alternative is death.

When I was in college, there was rumor of a wealthy man who walked away from his house (mansion) and went to living on the streets. All for the experience of knowing if it was possible to get on your feet if you were homeless. He went to the homeless shelters, got the "help" available, got a job and worked until he was able to afford his own housing again.

I don't know if that story is true, but I think it was. People used his name when they told the story. I never looked him up and I can't remember his name. That was nearly 20 years ago and I'm sure there are more resources available now than back then. The problem I see is the line of thinking. People tend to imitate the people they learn from. If their parents lack in critical thinking skills, where is the child to learn?

School is the obvious answer. Financial literacy courses were available at my high school and I took some of them, but they weren't part of the main curriculum and most of the people who had it as an elective didn't want to be there. It's amazing what you don't learn if you don't try. I don't remember what it was called, but it was something like "Future Business Owners" or FBO. My HS also had an OJT program, where kids got to leave school to go to work and get school credit for it.

If the parents don't put any emphasis on getting good grades and trying in school.....well, you know where this is going.

Also, I'm not disagreeing or arguing in any sense of the word. Just adding to the conversation.

I wish I could go back and make a few changes to my path. I would probably be a little happier with some of my life decisions but overall I cannot complain. I am doing good in a career that I honestly stumbled into because I was weeks away from getting fired at an armed security job. But I made the most out of it and invested back into myself into the IT career path.

But if I was picking my career today I would rather be in fabrication or engineering. A field where I can see the results of my work instead of just at a keyboard all day. But I do like my paycheck now. lol

I am very much the same. I actually really enjoyed when I did hardware repair. People would bring me a broken computer and I would give one back that worked. Very satisfying being able to see the results of your work.

Fast forward to working in InfoSec and a good day is when nothing happens. I suppose there is satisfaction in that though. I remember when one of our systems went down. The flood of "bad" that got in was overwhelming. So having that experience and knowing what all we are stopping is fairly satisfying.

I suppose I can't complain though. I'm sitting here drinking an Einstok Winter Ale (ABV 8.0%) and get off in 30 minutes.

Also, we implemented a new system that looks at user behavior. One of the things it looks for is "users seen using hacking tools."

I was proud to be the most frequent user. The only other two were my teammate and one of the guys on networking using wireshark.

This is what the 'Education System' that has been hijacked by the Teachers Unions and political operatives is teaching your children. There is no wonder there is so much racial hatred out there.

He's not banned or anything. I guess just letting the dust settle from all the critics of free speech. Usually puts out 3 per week.

Typically the same people who want to limit 2a go after 1a to start off so he's a good canary in the mine
