Tools!

Now that you guys are discussing 'little tools' - I bought this 18v kit last night and now I am thinking the 12v kit would be far more a better set for me. I don't plan on using these tools to make a living just to make my life a bit more convenient. Any opinions? I am choosing the Ridgid solely on battery replacement policy with Home Depot.

Seems like the batteries that come with the 12v has more energy storing capability. Seems odd but...
I'm leaning towards the smaller ones to match my small penis which is the reason I drive a small truck! lol

A.) Welcome back.

B.) 18V all day. Tiny penis or not.

I have a lot of 18v Milwaukee stuff but man those little 12v Fuel units are badass. I find I get them way more than any of the 18v ones for typical stuff around the house.

I picked up a set of the Milwaukee M12 Fuel drill and 1/4" impact driver. So far I am very impressed with them over my M18 standard drill and 1/4" impact driver. Not a bad present to myself.

So my set of M12 Fuel drill and 1/4" impact got a little better today. I was back in the store this morning and asked how I could get my free battery that the display showed with purchase of a tool. Three of the Home Depot employees all checked it out and told me to bring back my receipt and they would take care of it. I went home and got the receipt (about 15 mins one way) only to come back and be told the combo tool set was not one of the qualifying sets for a free battery.

I got home and did the customer survey about the experience just stating I wish they would have said that the first time instead of after a trip for the battery - wasting time and gas. A few hours later one of the managers emailed me about the customer experience I submitted and asked that I talk to him when I was in the store next. I was actually in the store picking up stain and a sheet of 1/4" plywood for my ackie montior enclosure build. The manager and I went back over the situation and I told him I did not want a free battery if my purchase did not qualify for one - I just did not appreciate my time being wasted like that on a weekend. My free time has been extremely limited lately and this really annoyed the piss out of me.

The manager said he appreciates his time off just as much and walked me down to the batteries to get a free battery. He was thinking I was talking about the more expensive 18v batteries and asked why I grabbed a single 12v battery. I told him the drills I bought were the 12v Fuel drills. He put back the single battery and told me to get a 2 pack of the high capacity 12v batteries - said I should at least make all this crap worth it.

So yeah - the drills were on sale when I bought them and then I got two more batteries for free. Been a good weekend for me.

I have a 12v lithium ion drill & impact kit in the office because it's small and technically I'm not supposed to do any work - like I'm not even supposed to touch tools on job sites. It's good enough for my needs but those are vastly different than yours.

I remember working under those constraints. The first time was safety wiring some fasteners on an KC10. I was fresh out of school and these 20-30 year employees couldn't do a simple safety wiring and they had all the right tools. I memorized, "Come on over, class has now started." - 'cause none of the trainers were union members.

Well, I'm going to take delivery of the 18v units and see how I like them. I have 90 days to return if the smaller ones become more appealing - and on sale! lol

Just bought 2 beam clamps from Guardian Fall protection. Holy crap they are proud of their stuff. Spent $500 on two clamps. Beamer® 2000

If this stuff was for personnel use it would be $100. Add in OSHA crap and it's 5x the cost it should be

Merry Christmas to me. This PackOut case is nice.. but I doubt I will ever use it to hold the drill and impact though. Upside is I told my wife to tell anyone who wanted to get me something to get a HD gift card. So maybe I can get the new 12v version as well this season.

Nice Christmas gift to yourself. At least they match most of your other drills too.

It looks like I am going to be picking up a basic wood router after Christmas for some light work. Anyone have a horrible experience with the corded Ryobi routers?

Only other drills I have our Bosch. Big 5/8th corded hammer drill and a 12v combo set. But yep, lots of Milwaukee.

Never used a Ryobi router. I had a Ryobi 14.4 volt drill/impact and small circular saw about 14 years ago... biggest POS. Won't touch that brand since.

That's a nice set.

Thinking about removing the back seats in my new cab and chassis and building a rack to hold tool cases like that for my less used tools like drills, impacts, hammer drill, corded grinders, etc. Otherwise those cases get very bulky very fast.

New truck for reference

Didn't you just get a new truck? Or was that new truck just a daily driver and this one is the new work truck? I like idea of tool storage in the cab. Just be sure to put it behind some doors so no smash and grab.

Yes and yes. This will be the new work truck. At 281k the 06 is just about flopped out. I don't trust it to get me across the state and pull trailers without grenading.

It was most likely all be exposed, I don't have a big issue with theft in my area and it gets locked behind a closed gate at my house every day. When I'm out and about in it the longest it ever gets left alone is in the home depot parking lot. Also gonna do 5% limo tint on the back doors so you can't see in. Really tempted to do it on the front doors also but I think that's just asking for trouble.

Everyone I've talked to says Bosch or nothing for routers.

^^ This... I have their big 2.5 horse mac daddy plunge router with the different bases and a Bosch router table. Used it a several times but its big. I have their Colt palm router and I use it more than the big one, its just easier to use. If you don't need the ability to attach to a router table I say get one of those.

Just do legal on the front. It's still darker than OEM tint
