I was pretty close. I was figuring 40-45 degrees. I am a little surprised it does not extend to above the rack bars. How do you like it so far with your drive to work?

I've noticed no increase in wind noise, so I'm pretty happy.

That's pretty darn impressive for a rack of that size with so many cross bars. My (2) "Areo" cross bars on my Subaru make a good deal of wind noise at highway speeds.

To be fair, I already had a bit of wind noise to begin with, this just didn't make it worse. I think I need to replace my driver's door weatherstripping, actually. :D

Decided to cram one last project into the weekend and rebuild a torn CV.

Blew apart the axle and couldn't find any damage. Whoo! Caught it in time.

Old grease cleaned up, but no solvents.

Repacked with fresh grease.

Repeat on the other side, and reassembled. Much better. Would have been nice if the large clamp on the outer boot was a little bit larger, though. The boot felt a little small, too, so I wonder if there's not some slight variability in the OEM CV parts.

Put it all back together, refilled the front diff, and no horrible noises! Whoo!

@unevolved make sure you check on those boot clamps for the next few days. I never had good luck with them and just went to using hose clamps. I keep an extra set of hose clamps (one large & one small) along with some grease just in case I ever need to re-pack a CV boot so I can make it back home or I can replace a lost clamp.

Yep, definitely watching them. Thanks.

Yeah I bought the "tool" to tighten those clamps.. I still wasted a couple clamps. Before I went Kings my old Fox 2.0's would allow me to use hose clamps.

Your kings don't have clearance for the hose clamps?

And yeah I broke a couple of those "tool" for the hose clamps. They are as worthless as the clamps themselves.

Nope.. pretty tight. I had to move the boot in a bit as well.

New Kings look fancy. They extended travel and adjustable?

@Silverback Damn that shaft is overbuilt. lol Also you have the RCV axles so I bet those are thicker as well.

RCV axle shafts are pretty much same diameter, just built from 300m with Chromoly inner and outers.

Decided to suck it up and replace the headlight housings. I'd polished them up before with a 3M kit, which lasted for about a month before they got even worse. I went with TYC's CAPA-Certified parts in the hopes they'll hold up and won't leak/fog up. Fitment was great, install took about an hour for both of them.

Getting to be a pretty good looking truck now. Still haven't gotten around to mounting the roof tent on the Prinsu rack, but hopefully I'll get to that before too much longer. I'd love to go on some trips this fall, schedule permitting.

:shifty:

looking for the locker update.

It's still at Tandem. Their supplier sent the wrong solid spacer for the pinion. The owner called me apologizing profusely, but I know these things happen. Used to have to deal with it all the time when I worked at the racecar shop. They offered to rebuild it immediately with a crush sleeve, but the right spacer would have to be ordered again. I said I was fine with waiting to do it right.

And to be honest, since the wife's is about to pop any day now, I'm not really in a hurry to get my hands on it yet. I'm fine with them taking their time, especially when they keep discounting it.

Picked up the E-Locker from Tandem Auto the other day. They replaced all seals and bearings, updated the front oil baffle, and said everything looks great. I know it was replaced under warranty; they said they suspect the front pinion bearing was making noise, potentially due to not replacing oil on schedule. So they put in the updated oil baffle design, and everything should be rock solid now.

I can't wait to put it in, but with a newborn at home I've got to be patient. Gotta remind myself progress with a credit card is still progress.

Also found this sweet gash on the bottom of one of the sliders from the last trip to Bridgeport. Money well spent.
