I put the new Trail Toys Recovery Sling to use yesterday while tensioning David's winch line.

CV axles and seals on uncles car. Ordered parts for cam and crank seals, timing belt, water pump, tensioner, valve cover and related seals - along with that special tool to hold the crank on Civics. Thing has 198, 000 miles and runs great.

Ughh.. I'm getting ulcers and my blood pressure is going up thinking about the project I signed on to do for my neighbor. His son has a 2001 Z71 access cab. He got in an accident and it took out the drivers side cab corner (and drivers door and bedside.. door and bed are easy.. just replace). Bodyshops quoted $6-7k to fix. He talked me into helping him do a cab clip swap on it. Basically we take another cab. Cut it about 3" down on the A-pillars and then cut the floor just behind the drivers seat on both. Pull off the old cab.. land the new one in place and weld it in. Sounds easy right? lol So tomorrow I am taking my truck and trailer to south Austin and picking up a cab.. lucky for me its still on the frame!! FML. So I get to lay in the dirt and unbolt a 15 year old cab and then somehow load it onto my trailer. Bring it back and unload it into HIS garage. No way I'm doing this in mine. Granted mine is over 2x as big and taller... I just don't want the mess nor do I want the thing sitting there for a month. Its gonna be a shit show I'm afraid. What the fuck was I drinking when I said yes to this? Oh I remember.. Bud Light. Man I've done a lot of stupid shit while drinking but this might be at the top. I hope I don't just fuck this whole thing up. Not to mention there goes my "free time" for the next ?? weekends until its done. But he's a good dude and I'd help him out with whatever he needs, this is just a bit much.

I know the feeling. You offer to help just trying to be nice, not expecting to take you up on it and then BAM. Good luck with that shit.

I like that approach. Tell him that you wouldn't want his wife to know about that night! lol:confused:

I'm gonna do this. It's a challenge. For sure. If I fail fuck it. But I think I can do it and we'll see.

Yes I'm drinking.

Well this should be interesting. I have full faith that you can do it. Now doing it with help may be different.

What are you drinking? Is it the roofie beer?

New Growler Bar opened up near the house yesterday. I went up there to sample the goods. Place was awesome. So yes, I probably was roofied but I'm not sure which beer did it.

Perhaps I'm not understanding why are you chopping the cab? Seems like if he wanted to update the body style it would be easier to swap the old cab out entirely. Everything from 99-06 should be interchangeable

True. But they don't want a salvage title. This, on paper, seems pretty straight forward. We got the can today. It wasn't too bad. Only 6 bolts held the cab on. Brought my Milwaukee 18v grinder and made short work of anything hanging on used 2 of my HiLifts to get it up on tall jack stands. Luckily the guy had 4 of them and some thick angle iron to put between them. The we drug the frame out from under it. Backed my trailer under the nose of the cab and chocked the trailer. Disconnected the trailer and turned Taco around. Used winch to pull it on the trailer. Got it back and back it into his garage. Used my Warn PullZAll to drag it off the trailer and onto my 4 wheeled dollies I use to roll the trail rig around the garage. It's a heavy fucker! So next steps are to clean out the cab. Remove f&r glass. Pull doors. Then measure and cut. The firewall is by far the heaviest part so getting rid of it will help moving it around. I think this may work. I did have a near miss with the HiLift today. I was getting tired and had moved the HiLift 10x or so and was lowering the front and it slipped out of my hand. Had my left hand stabilizing the jack up up. The handle came flying up and smacked me in the side of the head (nothing to hurt they) launched my Oakleys about 30' and then the handle smashed the fuck out of my thumb. Nothing broken. Just a reminder to pay attention. First time a HiLift has ever got me.

I'd rather have the Salvage Title. I'm getting more comfortable with that concept. lol

Also if we had a 2 post lift the cab swap would be easy peasy. This will be lighter weight to move around. Just more welding... And everyone knows welding sheetmetal is fun. lol. Fuck I hate welding sheet metal.
