What have you done to someone else's ride lately?

Do you live behind a greasy diner? Wow that is a nasty filter.

I was concerned at how dirty the OE filter was. I even text a picture of it to @Taco Loco to see if his Ferd filter ever looked like that. Best I could figure is she must have driven somewhere that there would have been a lot of soot on the road....like always driving on freshly paved asphalt.

Looking through the pics on this F150 forum, it seems like this is a pretty common filter state:

That thread gets off topic quite a bit by going down the aftermarket CAI vs OEM as well as using oiled or dry aftermarket filters. however, if you just scroll down and look at the pics, most of them are at about 25k when they were replaced and many of them look the same. I guess we'll see how this filter looks when I swap it out in 27k miles (to get back on the 30k schedule since I was 3k late on this one).

RockAuto was the place to go for the filters. Motorcraft was $10 vs the $25 that they wanted at the dealership. I was going to get the motorcraft cabin filter for $15 instead of the $35 they want at the dealership, but it was coming from a different warehouse and doubled up the shipping. I ended up getting a Bosch HEPA premium filter for $11 each. Went ahead and ordered 2 of each for only $1 more on shipping cost.

Dealership would have been $60 plus tax for 2. I got 4 shipped for $55.

I try to do a maintenance order from Rock Auto once a year for windshield wipers, filters, and the basics to make the savings worth the shipping. Plus it is nice having new wipers and filters immediately on hand when needed without having to wait.

I service 3 ferds, including mine, never seen an air filter that oily before.

Any reference documents on the seal replacement? I need to do the same on my 2006 Tacoma soon.
It's a pretty straightforward job, this one was on my sister's Mazda but the Toyota case should be very similar. The PN for the seal is 9031141020 for the rear and 9031141017 or 9031141013 for the front seal, they list both so probably best to put VIN # in to verify if it's the front seal. Not sure on the size of the pinion flange nut, my sister's was I think 26MM, it's a fairly large socket. I used a seal driver kit from OTC 4507, but any cheap seal driver kit will work, even a piece of pipe that matches the seal metal lip will work if you have the right size laying around.

I reused the old seal to help seat the new one. Saw that trick on a YouTube video.

Changed oil on the Expedition. I was able to crawl under there without jacking it up, but a small lift and tires would make oil changes much easier.

Keep mpg's, some Car/truck ramps much cheaper.

Very true, but those don't look as cool.

Yeah, I don't know your version of what cool is, lol.

Today is Saturday and I'm at the farm enjoying coffee out on the porch, waiting for some vermin to show, while eating a bologna, ham and cheese sandwich for breakfast, only cause I didn't hit the grocery store a couple days ago, its cool though because I won't see those tires from here.

I ordered a NoCo 2 port genius charger a while back and finally got around to setting it up today. The sammich maker's Sportster will like having the battery on a tender after the previous owner did not keep it on a tender. Now to setup my Fat Boy with the NoCo tender port.

Do you already have the Noco port on hand? A friend of mine was looking for one and it was out of stock everywhere.

Yeah, I just need the two it came with currently. Maybe in March or May I will need a couple more.

Expedition got new shoes.

I kind of hated to spend the money, but I've been watching the prices of tires (along with everything else) go up over the last couple of months. I read that there is a rubber shortage. That and the already well documented shipping delays is causing supply and demand to drive up the price.

The original Michelin tires that came on the vehicle were absolute crap and would hydroplane WAY too easily. Got Discount Tire to price match Walmart and take another 10% off, so I'm reasonably happy with the deal.

Michelin are shit, I immediately replaced the ones on my work truck after 500 miles. The ones on my old expedition only lasted half the mileage warranty and they wouldn't cover them.

And yet we have 60k miles on a set of MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S on the LX and no complaints.

My biggest thing was the safety aspect. A vehicle as big and heavy as the Expedition shouldn't hydroplane when hitting a small puddle during a moderate rain. I realize that puddles can be deceiving, but no. There is no excuse for how bad the old tires were in rain. In fact, I think they were Michelin Defender LTX...I'll check.

Same, my step-dad used to get 60k+ out of the LTX M/S tires and it was the same on my nephew's X-terra with his Michelin LTX M/S2.

However, I haven't been as happy with the michelin's on my S60. They are too loud for road tires and they aren't wearing that great.

I have been nothing but pleased with the Michelin's on my 250. I have 15k miles on them and they still look new.
