Working on my dads 66 Vette.
Last project: new carb, pressure regulator and braided fuel lines.
This morning: replaced the master cylinder and line to the proportioning valve.
Next is to have the drums turned and then replace the pads.
That is bad ass. Love the 60s corvettes. I would love a 63 split window and a 67 with a 427.
That's awesome! Would've been a helluva 16th bday present!

I went to high school with 2 very different kids. One who was VERY industrious and before his 17th birthday he bought a 61 red and white vette. The other rather spoiled an a bit lazy - parents would leave the house nearly every Saturday so that he could have a Kegger. His parents bought him a steel blue split window for his 17th birthday.

We got the front drums back on and now there is no power. Not sure if it's that it's 50 years old or if it's a Chevy issue.

Didn't finish the bed install. They sent the wrong bedside. So the bed is on. Just missing the side panel. Bummer. No body shop this week. At least it's not a sure thing.
I got to do some repair work on the underside of a Scion bumper for a friend. Ironically the old storage tub lid is thicker than the factory liner I zip tied it to.

Loaded up the neighbors truck and hauled it to a body guy in Jarrell. He was doing prep work and painting the jams at his house. Moving it to the shop when its time to paint. Looking pretty good. Hope to pick it back up next weekend.

Thanks man... body shop dude was more than impressed. He said he has been doing body work for 8 years and never seen anyone outside a shop attempt a cab clip swap. At the same time he said that even in the shop he had only seen one. LOL Now that the rain has stopped we are hoping he can get it moved to his shop and finish the paintwork. I would like to pick it up on Sunday.
Any tips for welding sheet metal back together? I plan to practice on some before I start welding on my rig soon

Use small wire .027 or smaller with gas, also try to avoid butt joints try to make everything a lap joint or put some kind of backer behind it
Okay; I was thinking of the backer strip from previous experience with thin metal.

I used .025 with a 75/25 gas mix. I had the welder set down low to prevent burn-through. I used a spot weld cutter to dissect the cab pieces, so putting it back together I could use the existing spot weld holes and they lined up perfectly. I also used some tools that helped me make nice spot welds with out worry of blowing through. But I got to the point where I could lay down a nice bead in the sheetmetal and not blow through and it sounded like bacon sizzling the whole way.
When I finished I hit it all with a wire wheel and then a coat of this shit that prevents rust. Then we used automotive seam sealer and then finally a coat of underbody rubberizing spray. Biggest pain in the ass was splitting the seams after cutting the spot welds. Some were just a bitch. Amazon.com: Steck Manufacturing 23230 Plugweld Plier: Automotive

Well I will have to find the smallest flux core wire I can; but I do not see me getting setup for gas anytime this summer. I'll go low and slow plus keep the welds apart a good distance.

.030 is the smallest flux available that I know of and it will make your life hell welding anything thin with it. Anything more than a tack blows holes with mine set at its lowest settings

Yeah, I tried welding my rear fenders on my old 4runner with flux core and it just blew threw at all sheetmetal. VERY hard to get it to stick. Luckily the 2001 Chevy has some thicker sheetmetal.. not all of it though.
