Show it some love before you throw it away. :)

That is the bad hub so I do not care about it now.
It's not a bad hub. It's a bad bearing. Not sure of the quality of the Dorman crap but the border in me says keep it. :)

Yeah - part of me says keep it to rebuild it. Part of me says I already have plenty of spare parts that do not require rebuilding.

Take it apart and see if it's possible to add grease fittings

I went through that a long time ago.. the hardened races are a MOFO to drill through. Now with a drill press and carbide bits its probably doable. This pic is probably 9 years old. I had the outer threaded for a zirk but could not penetrate the inner race.

Also, the bearing is designed to be a sealed bearing... so pushing grease in it is not what it was designed for, so it will cause failure to the seals. Double edge sword. Personally I would like a zirk.

Got a little more work done on homertacos slider rebuild. Cut the frame plates out and the tubing to sleeve the legs. Just need to make the gussets and once the sliders are back from powder coat I will burn them onto the frame. Plasma made short work of the plates.

Keep it, clean it up, and get a shop to press in a new bearing? That seems like cheap insurance...or, have one ready to go for TOR Christmas :).

Attempted to swap out some lower ball joints on a 14 T4R Sunday. Two things went horribly wrong. One, AC Delco ball joints don't fit right. You can't get the snap ring to seat in the groove. And two, it came from New Jersey, so the driver LCA cam bolts were both seized. So next weekend is cutting them out. Grease dem cams boys, all it takes is one n done.

lol NJ rust sucks....

Wait until the second set of BJ's goes bad on the LCA's. I have yet to see a aftermarket LCA BJ that will allow removal once it's installed. The aftermarket replacements I have seen do not allow enough room for a cup to slide over them for removal via press. Seem they are all a little bigger diameter.

Yeah, the 5th gens have the same setup as the GX470s do and I believe they're actually interchangeable. In the GX world, 99% of people just replace the entire LCA with OEM when the ball joints and/or bushings go bad. About $700. But the ball joints are damn near impossible to replace and a lot of shops won't even do it.

That's the exact same thing everyone told me about the Taco LCA BJ's (Everyone of my local Toyota dealers + more than a few backyard mechanics included).

I said "F" that and spending all that $$$.

Where there was a will, I found a way. Looking back that's one of the only "TW write ups" I did that when I look back on I feel like I actually helped some people. Now everyone has even better tips and tricks that make it easier and quicker.

I was able to remove Moog lowers, had a big half cup i used with the press. The AC delcos removed easily, but still, they weren't going to work without removing some material from something.

Good to know. I put moog in many years ago and the full cups I had would not fit. Silly me - I never tried a half cup. lol

Greeeeaaat :(

last time I redid my front end I installed Moog:
Wheel bearings
Tie rods
LCA BJ's

I guess they can;t break if the truck doesn't move?

Any idea why they failed? You do the ones with zerks? I installed the serviceable BJ's and purged all the crappy white lithium grease out and replaced it with Mobil 1. Overfilled them as I do everything - took it for a drive to warm it up - then pushed some out so they wouldn't keep the rubber stretched out like a ol hooker.

Did the same for their wheel bearings - I do not like white grease

I've got the ball joint/u-joint removal set. I'll get a pic of it for ya if I remember and get a pic of the half cup I used.

Ive got this kit 14 Piece Master Ball Joint Adapter Set

Used it twice in a few years so it's paid for itself, but when I bought it I only needed it for one of the cups so I bought cheap.
