Seriously though. If you need the SUV because of kids, you might as well get one with the 3rd row. Eventually, those kids will have friends that will need to ride with you, or you may have more kids. Sequoia, LC, LX are the only ones in the Toyota lineup that I would truly consider because they have some storage behind the 3rd row. We also considered an Expedition.

We went with the van because of the initial cost, the 5 year ownership cost and gas mileage.

X2 if your kids and fam are anything like my sisters. She has a Sequoia with 2 teenage boys & her husband and even needs a Yakima roof rack/ski rack/cargo rack thing on trips. Best part is she can't even park it in her garage - it's too long and too tall

and if you think a Tacoma gets bad MPG --------the Sequoya is much worse

When I think large SUV the only one I would go with is a diesel Excursion. They have lots of room, good mileage, and ride better than expected.

The weight helps with their greatness. They tow like a 3/4 ton truck and have good creature comforts. I have a friend that drives one and she loves it. The biggest thing is getting used to the size of it in parking lots.

Have you looked at the prices for used 7.3L excursions lately? You'll probably change your mind then lol

Yeah we'll either get a BMW X5 (with the maintenance plan for sure, I ain't working on that car) or a Volvo XC90. But it'll be a little bit before we go buy one. For now, I want to enjoy the extra money in my bank account for a few months at least. :)

X5 was on my list when we weren't seriously considering making a move. I completely forgot about it when crunch time hit. I'd like to see how much storage space is behind the 3rd row.

Smart move on the maintenance package.

X5 WAS ONE OF THOSE suv'S i ALWAYS LOVED THE LOOKS OF.

Not yelling was in CAD drafting. I've also always liked the Volvo's.

My old boss bought a used x5 and hated it due to all the issues. Think consumer reports used to call it one of the top 10 worst SUV's ever made in terms of reliability back in the day, but lets get real....no ones buying a BMW for reliability, and the same can be said for a Merc.

I think for my next car I'm going to try and get something made in Japan. I have not been impressed with the assembly quality of the past two Japanese vehicles I purchased that were put together here. I'm pretty sure within month one of Subaru ownership it was puking wire harnesses out onto my feet while driving. Car also leaks in heavy rains since day one and has air bag issues that remain unresolved to this day (going on 4 years & might have something to do with crappy electrical harness placement).
