What have you done to your ride lately?

Replaced all three belts on my 2001 4Runner and put the sway bar back on. I was getting comments from my sandwich maker about the corners making her feel unsafe.

Alternator is charging a little stronger and boost is building a little faster. New belts are nice.

Not sure what is up with the taco. Went out this morning to Home Depot and when I cranked it up it sounded like alternator whine through the stereo (never had that before) Turned off stereo and its still present. ?? It was making some sort of noise as well... hard to describe. Got home and popped the hood and it smelled like hot electrical. I'm thinking alternator taking a shit. Which is sorta not a bad thing since I have a new 240 amp Mechman unit that Santa will be leaving under the tree in the house. But I really need to figure out that this issue is. Might be something else.

Did a ground come loose?

Nahh.. its alternator. Had a friend come over and he put a large breaker bar on the alternator and when I switched on the headlights/hibeams he could feel the vibration change. Expect its a bad bearing in the OEM unit. So Santa brought out my Christmas present and that will be going in tomorrow after work. I'll be upgrading some wiring at the same time. :)

That sure is convenient that your alternator goes out a few days after your new alternator shows up.

You are telling me... actually I'm kinda pissed. Was hoping to use the old one as a spare.

Its a thought. I think its just a bearing. Appears to put out good voltage/amps. Might be an easy fix.

Rolled 30k on it this weekend after 14 months and a few days of ownership. So it got an oil change, tire rotation, cabin filter, and a good wash and cleaning inside and out. Still loving it just as much as the day I bought it.

Put some new door handles on the Tacoma as well since the driver one didnt work at all and the passenger side was about to give out as well. Figured I better do it before I got completely locked out.

Nice. Mine rolled 36k last night.

For the Ferd, 3rd oil change will be soon at 15K, and 15 months old.

Swapped out the alternator in the Taco for a Mechman unit. Birthsheet says 244 amps at 1800 RPM and 144 amps at 800 rpm idle.

Also did part of the big three upgrade. Upgraded the wire to the alternator to 0 gauge and to the starter to 4 gauge.. although the OEM starter wire was similar in size but it was too short. Still need to upgrade the grounds.

Hydraulic crimper worked awesome.

I need to snake a little split loom on the alternator wire. While it appears to be against some metal in this pic its not. But I want to shield it a little more.

And done for now.

And no alternator whining or growling.:aaaaa::banana::b1::headbang:

The plan is to streamline them in the near future. But yeah, lots of wires. Winch, dual battery, stereo, starter, fuse blocks, can't really eliminate any of those.

How much for that bish? Right now I am trying to dial in how much I have to run my truck to recharge my second batt when out in the desert. :) I am thinking 144 amp at idle would do the job and I would still keep my non-prius status by not having solar! lol

Oh and as for the hydraulic crimper... I probably should have used the next size up. I crunched it pretty good. Its not going anywhere. But the dies are simply makes 10, 15, 25, etc up to 50. No idea what it really means. I just grabbed a couple (35) that appeared to be the right size. I think the 50 would have been better.
