I was looking at the install manual and it said to run 2ga straight to the battery.

And if the motor grounds out during a pull, what do you think will happen to your battery/truck?

Id rather burn a fuse or two before I burn a battery.

Google
battery caught fire using winch

Well I have ran straight wire from the winch to the battery and used a winch more than all you fools combined and never had an issue. I'll stick to what I know works..... and keep a fire extinguisher close. :)

Thats how I had mine run on the Tacoma. I had a 200amp fuse for it but never had an issue.

Got my 2M and CB wired up last night. Got a lot of plans with the family today, but HOPEFULLY I can sneak in working on the rear camera wiring.

Skipped the camera wiring for today... although I think I should have done it. Been working on the winch. Got the Warn M8000 out, got the remote solenoid out... all winch wiring out. Got new winch in and bolted in place. Have not got it wired up. Its hot and humid and its making my temper short. Also started to remove the 12 Volt Guy in-cab winch controller/dual battery switch. I think when I go to sell the winch I'm going to make it a bundle deal and include the in-cab controller and dual battery setup.

Also started to tear-down the Warn winch. I want to clean it up real nice and re-grease the gear assembly. It's got a bit of overspray on it from previously painting the bumper and trying to cover it up... apparently some paint slipped in there. Not too bad but if I'm gonna do it might as well do it right.

I agree. I spent the first 7 hours of the day doing family stuff. Which is fine. But it cuts into "getting shit done" time.

Time for the yearly spark plug change. This year I am a few weeks early but I wanted to knock it out before the Arkansas trip. So far I am pretty happy with the looks of the old plugs. None of them are excessively worn, no black oil deposits, and no blistering. New plug on left for comparison.

Started rewiring the CB and 2M radio. In order to do so I had to remove a shitload of excess wiring from under the dash. Damn, I think I let the Jennie out of the bottle.. or opened Pandoras Box. What a mess!! I can't locate the wires that power the CB that is under the center console. I found one small (18 ga maybe) wire that I have NO idea where it is going. It goes up to the radio area... but not sure. But I am glad to be removing a LOT of excess BS wiring as I go. Fingers crossed the truck starts tomorrow. :)
What's this thing you call CB? No power sounds like a good thing.

What ever happened to the wireless trend?

This reminds me when we had to replace wires that didn't ohm out to specs on the AH 64, very sensitive bastards, but if the aircraft loses hydraulics it is able to fly by wire, very tedious work to replace single strand wires within a wiring harness on helicopters a lot more involved than airplanes/jets and just think toyota heads thought wheel sensors are sensitive, lol
I know what you are talking about. I was responsible for all the wiring harnesses on the MD11 and about 1/2 of the C17. Lots of small wires and gold pins. :)

I have done far more of my share of winching myself and others through trails I shouldn't have been on. As much as I would hate the fire, it would make a story like no other! lol

Got my 2M wired up last night. Finally put that CB on my pile of green propane bottles that I use when I go shooting. Not the best target but packed with Tannerite it will make me feel good to get it, it's short range and it's static out of my life. :)
