Was planning to start work on the Taco today. But I pinched a nerve in my neck and I am not doing shit. Maybe tomorrow. Its not a lot to do (pads and rotors, all new Crown brake lines, swap in my RCV axle up front, change diff fluid, change t-case fluid.. maybe wash it).

Why are you doing new crown lines? I'm gonna order new OEM pads for mine since my EBC Greenstuff pads are about half way through and not stopping great anymore.

Crown lines I have are too long. Nothing wrong with them but the outer casing is pealing off due to them being wrapped around.

Finally got off my ass and found some UCAs for the Tacoma. Picking then up later this week. So hopefully this thing will be back to driving before the registration runs out at the end of February. The truck I got them off of also has a 4.10 elocker rear axle. So I might pick that up as well if it's still available in a few weeks. I know... elockers suck. But 1st gens dont seem to have the issues that 2nd gens do. For about $1000 less than an ARB, I'll risk it.

That's Mr Asshole to you
Lets talk brakes. I am at 79K miles and plan to replace my front brake pads and rotors by summer. I put on the Power Stop vented rotors and pads on my Tacoma and they seemed good for the 10K miles I had them before getting rid of the truck.
Is the verdict go with OEM pads and rotors or something else?

I've had nothing but PowerStops since my first brake job and never had an issue. I don't do the green pads, I do the yellow pads. I'm about to replace mine again with the same.

I take that back, I once did EBC.

I liked the EBC's but damn they are $$$.

I know you like those blondes, but I prefer to drink with Fred while working on my vehicles, I know he probably doesn’t look as good as the blondes, but he is much smarter and just a friendly neighbor, plus I don’t like trucks/suv sitting on the driveway for months/year at a time lol

I just replaced my front brakes and driver side caliper because the piston boots were not in great shape.

I had the rotors turned(Duralast Gold Rotors) with new Duralast Gold pads, I have lifetime warranty on the pads and the rotors have 2 year warranty, but mine were out of warranty, so I had them cut, still within specs.
I got 33 months out of the Vatozone brakes, not sure about the mileage, I’ll have to see if I recorded it. Overall I was happy with the cost and performance. Previous I have ran 2 sets of OEM set up, and 1 EBC slotted set with green pads and I wasn’t too impressed with those.

I also did a 5 tire rotation and replaced the air filter on the Laundry Fairy’s LX570 today.

I recently put Z36 front and rear kit on the Ferd, they seem to be much better than stock, only thing that disappointed me was that the rotors were made in China, not sure how long the brakes/rotors will last or holdup.

I guess I should check to see how long I've had the Duralast rotors and pads. If they are under warranty, I suppose I will replace with like (a.k.a. if they are free). Next time I pay for brakes, I'm going back OEM.

As far as I'm concerned, OEM is proven and anything else has some degree of risk that is greater than OEM.

I got 117k out of my OEM rotors and pads and only replaced because "they had to be near EOL due to mileage." ...nope, I probably could have gone MUCH longer.

Well I busted my December budget(Xmas, driveway materials and deposits on vacation plans), so I opted the cheaper route, 2 rotors turned $50 and free pads, free warranty replacement on the brake caliper.

Depending how long these brakes last, depends on how I replace next time. I figure I could change out Duralast rotors and brakes every 23 months at a significant lower cost.

Looks like warranty on mine is up next month. Going to call today to make sure all is well. If so, I'll pull into the garage tonight and pull the old stuff off so that I can run up to the store during my lunch break tomorrow and get the new parts.

I'm glad you posted that because I thought the warranty was only 1 year! I was ready to bite the bullet and buy OEM again. I wonder if they will let me pay the difference and upgrade to the Gold rotors....not sure they will be any better, but i doubt they are any worse.

If it’s under warranty, the best you can do is rebuy the same stuff, (check inventory) swap and return and get full price back, I do this often and I have the parts already on hand at the time of removal.

It's hard to come home and mechanic after mechanicing 50+ hours a week. Kills motivation quick.

But... you inspired me. Me and Whiskey Myers got out to the garage and changed all the steering rack bushings tonight. Damn that's a bitch when you dont have a c-clamp. I should probably go get all my clamps from my dads shop at some point. Also dropped the drive shaft to change the u-joints and carrier bearing. Getting ready to place an order on Friday for all the last nuts and bolts I need. Good thing I waited to place the order because I cant find one of my steering rack bolts that I thought I had.

I didn't have any blondes with me tonight. Just some yella bellies. Oh, and your love of Fred is still gay.

ok, I got 33k out of that last brake job, I found the date and box and I put those on before the 2017 Trip to the ozarks, and it probably didn’t help with @Silverback deciding that we should take faster than normal speeds in that downhill Slalom course, that had everyone’s brakes smoking lol
