So was there a leak or what?
It was leaking out of the shifter, so I did 2 things. Because the tcase is clocked, the oil catch plate isn't flat. So oil was pooling on top of it. I drilled a couple small holes around the edge so it would drain. Also, I replace the ancient gaskets that were stuck to it.
Double checked the oil capacity of the tcase, and it's not 1.9 like I thought before. It's only 1.7

x3. Oh well you could always get the front shaft retubed to fit. That's what i did when I installed the Crawlbox. Only cost $100 since they used no material just labor to chop and balance.

So now I was just told the race team has used those interchangeably. I was told the carrier bearing may have not have been seated fully. Time to get off my ass and accurately measure them. I did have a beer before I checked them and I am a certified light weight.
I survived the mountain cedar and am back in the garage tonight. I finished cleaning off the previous mounts that were not needed and cleaned up some splatter from Toyota. Then I got busy with the upper front axle gusset. The only problem I ran into was not moving the trash can far enough way before welding. Once that fire was put out I managed to get about half of the gusset welded before having to call it a night. Tomorrow I'm going to finish the gusset, weld on the diff armor, and fab up some steering stop gussets and burn them in also.
I really need to get some gas for this welder; but until then I'll just have to go with strong/not-so-pretty welds.

I think I finally figured out how to get my bed rack mounted securely on the 85. I will make some progress on it tomorrow since the wife is in Telluride skiing till monday. Man weekend at my house will be great.

I changed out the rotten roof rail weatherstripping on my '66. For the first time since I've owned it the door window seals to the roof and there is no wind noise or rattling.

Passenger side valve cover. Its a very slow and persistent leak.

After letting my car sit for 2 days after driving to the CO river I noticed a puddle on my friend's vacation home drive. It was probably about 1/4 qt. I then jacked the car up to see that the oil filter was backing off. That 200+ mile drive home could have been a bitch had I needed 8 quarts, a filter and a filter housing in the middle of the desert!
On the Tacoma or one of your BMW's? That sucks but at least you were paying attention and didnt burn up your engine.

Got my compressor installed tonight thanks to some help from Aaron. There is absolutely NO room under the good of a first gen if you have ABS and cruise control. So we temporarily remounted the cruise control box with some zipties and used the cruise control mounting bracket to mount the ARB compressor on. Worked out pretty well once we figured out that the solenoid for the locker didn't have to be mounted to the compressor itself (thanks for the knowledge, Sean). Anyway, I'm happy with it. Diff from ECGS will be here tomorrow. I'm off until Friday night so I'm hoping to have this thing done by the time I go back. Just have to find somewhere that has the right brass L fittings that I need.
