What have you done to your ride lately?

Picked up a chunk of steel today while driving around. So a new tire will be here tomorrow. Until then I am hoping my old spare holds up. I am impressed the replaced valve stem is still holding up.

Anybody got experience with painting their ride?

Bought a camper shell yesterday. The color was wrong, but the price was right.

I'm finding a quart of 4T3 paint costs about +/- $85 depending where you buy it. Add primer and clear and I'm still under what I would have expected to pay for a camper shell.

This video is good, but not sure I would go through all of the steps that he takes. I don't need to use it as a mirror...just want to get it the right color and not look stoopid.

If I decide to not paint it, I'm pretty confident that I can sell it.

Edit: Current color is Silver Streak Mica. My truck is Pyrite Mica.

Do yourself a favor and call a few shops to get quotes. Even call Maco but if you use them tape everything yourself that you don't want painted.

I did that before and the quotes were WAY too high. Didn't call Maaco though. Might be worth a shot. I want to spend a little more time looking at the camper to see how easily the windows and such can be removed.

Whatever you think you'll save by painting it yourself...I promise you, you won't. It can be insanely frustrating when you think you've followed all the steps to a T and the product still turns out like shit because dust particles got caught in the paint. Or when the paint keeps running and you don't have the experience to figure out why...

Also triple the amount of time you think you can get it painted as well.

and thats why I started taking all my parts to get powerder coated. Sooooo tired of the time it took me to prep and paint stuff only to have it look like poo or flake off in a year. Used to think I was saving time and money but hindsight is 20/20 and I was blowing 2x the amount I would of by just hiring a pro.

I know all the reasons not to. I think I can setup a fairly decent paint booth and it's not like I'm going into it totally inexperienced....though I've never painted a car....or even any body panels for that matter. To me, it's more of the challenge of "I want to see if I can do it."

If I mess it up, I then lost the ability to sell it "as-is" (since it is currently a common factory color) and have to pay someone to do it right, which adds to the overall cost. In that case, I might as well have just waited to find one the right color...

...the problem with waiting to find one the right color is that almost no one sells used campers in Pyrite Mica. When they do, they almost always want close to the cost of a new one. The shops all want way more than the self imposed limit of what I'm willing to spend to paint it.

Go for it then! Wish ya all the luck I can spare!

I've completely painted a car in the days when you could still get non-water based paints and buff them out. These two stage products - haven't tried them.

What did the Taco do to get sent to Kommiefornia? Poor truck.
The real question is how many pounds of Fentanyl will the guy be carrying into CA? :o

Back when I order 10 of these on sale, dummies messed up gave me 5 of 10 in the 15K mile ls Extended Performance oil, which cost about $7-8 more.

I normally change every 5k, I set the computer on the truck to 7,500 miles for this change.

I like the mileage and part numbers in marker. I do the same to my oil filters, but need to start doing it to my air filters as well. I always forget to log that stuff on my PC.
