What have you done to your ride lately?

Oh and despite not having those springs, the only time the brakes have been soft is probably due to them glazing over caused by high heat.

The spring gets installed when you put the pins back in. The spring just help separate the pads from the rotor after release of the brakes.

Yeah I know what they do. Now that I think about it, when my factory pins backed out I lost the springs and just said fuck it. That was a long time ago.

Easy day today replacing a u joint on the rear driveshaft. The only issue I had was dropping a cup and the damn needle bearings falling out three times. But now the 4Runner runs smooth again. Next up will be radiator replacement, installing air bump shocks up front, and changing fluids in the diffs and transfer case.

Finally got off my ass and found some UCAs for the Tacoma. Picking then up later this week. So hopefully this thing will be back to driving before the registration runs out at the end of February. The truck I got them off of also has a 4.10 elocker rear axle. So I might pick that up as well if it's still available in a few weeks. I know... elockers suck. But 1st gens dont seem to have the issues that 2nd gens do. For about $1000 less than an ARB, I'll risk it.

Fucking fuck. Went to out the UCAs on tonight and one of them was warped. Cant see it with the naked eye but the bolt went through one bushing and was about 1/8" off by the time it got to the other one. Pissed me off enough to spend a bunch of money I dont have to order a new set of Camburgs from Headstrong Offroad. Hopefully they can get them here by this coming weekend.

Washed my Subaru inside and out including door jambs and areas that like to rust like the wheel wells. Operation "de-brine". Had the doors open all day and it was cold. My shammies were freezing drying it off. After I was done I drove to 5 miles to dry it off then parked it.

Go to remote start it after my shower this morning and nada - battery is dead. Luckily I was trying to get into the office by 6am so the delay waiting for my trickle charger to power it up didn't make me late for 7am start which is when everyone "must" be in the office. Threw my cables and trickle charger in the car. Hopefully I just drained it and the cold temps added to the issue and it's not dead dead. I might just throw it on the trickle charger all day till lunch just in case.

Welp my 45 minute drive in + 2hrs on trickle once at work filled her up. See what happens when I go to lunch. She's been slow to crank past two winters when cold & last night it was in the teens. Car & battery are 4-5 years old at this point.

4+ year old battery and temps in the teens? You have better odds in Vegas

She started right up via remote before today's lunch. Doesn't help that Subaru makes you turn the remotely started vehicle off before you can gain entry. So I actually had to warm it up, turn it off to get in, start it again to drive. Went to lunch. Turned it off. Got done lunch she started right up. Based on that I'm hoping I just drained it bad yesterday and now Ill be good to go.

All I know is I will not be scrambeling to run extension cords and find my trickle charger at 5am tomorrow like I was this morning.

Ill be ready to go just in case. Also grab my jumpers from the Tacoma and throw them in the Subi tonight after work.

Also backing in my parking spots for now till I'm satisfied my battery is OK or swap it out. Hopefully it is a battery issue not something worse thats draining it

New dowel pins are in, the alignment holes were wire brushed out and the new pins were driven it with a punch along with a liberal amount of anti seize

My buddy came over to "help" me put the drivetrain up yesterday. I let him drive the new seal in and of course it ended up going in crooked and then pounded it in the rear retaining plate way too far.

He felt bad and gave me money for the seal, but the bitch of it is the OEM seals cost $67 at the dealer and nobody local has it in stock so I ordered another one online for $40, and threw in a few oil filters just to make the cost of shipping worthwhile. Hopefully the new seal is in this week and then next weekend I can get everything buttoned up. If anyone has to replace the RMS on the taco, don't bother with the SST it's worthless. I'm going to be making my own SST this week for about 5% of the cost of the toyota tool.
