What have you done to your ride lately?

There was an issue with it starting. I don't recall details.

So do we start with the basics to help him think it through?

Is the battery good? Is it charged?
Does the battery have a good ground?
Is the positive cable connected both to the battery and the truck?

I think its more ECU not mated to engine or something. I don't think its an easy fix by a backyard mechanic.

Did the seafoam spray through the intake last night. Did about half of it in front of the throttle body but didn't like how it would pool up right in front, so I moved over to putting it in through the brake booster line.

The instructions said to have someone hold the RPMs at 2k, but I was solo and didn't have much issue just putting it in at idle. Engine slowed down once or twice, but I just stopped spraying and waited for it to get back up to speed before resuming the application.

Camera only looks to have captured about half the smoke. I backed out of the driveway and gave the engine a rev and threw some error codes with a hard CEL.

Cleared the CEL and went for a drive with several high RPM moments. CEL never came back, so hopefully that was only an initial "holy crap" by the ECU.

It felt like it pulled harder after doing it, but time will tell if I see any improvement overall.

MPG has been pretty consistent about 16.8 and doesn't seem to vary much no matter what I do. [i.e. fuel additives, or weight reduction (removal of skids and camper top)].

I've gotten some other codes since this, and they are all for the EVAP canister. In fairness to Seafoam, I think they are totally unrelated as I've gotten those same 5 codes since the truck was about 3 years old. Usually, I only get the codes on the first FREEZING morning, will clear them and they don't come back. So the fact that I got them before the temp has dipped below 65 is pretty unusual. I think I'm going to be replacing the EVAP canister just cause I'm tired of those codes.

It is not a war crime the first time.

Not sure if this applies to 5th gens; but the 3rd gens are hours easier if you remove the transmission bolts then raise it an inch with the stock jack.

Placed an order for the SOS Concepts Front and Mid skid last night. I think you guys will like the design much better than the previous AllPro ones. Lead time is 4 weeks and the SOS shop is about an hour and a half away from here, so I'll make a day trip of it and spend some time in SC.

They need some more love on their website. I didn't know they made Aluminum skids until I saw the dude post the used ones. I'm paying a little more for new, but with 20% off promo they are running it seemed like a good deal.

So what started the surprise removal?

I found a leak on the driver side CV and decided i needed to replace the needle bearing and the seal. So i got the kit from ECGS to change to a bushing, well while I was trying to remove the bearing part of the tool fell into the differential. It turns out that it was just a little bit bigger then the drain hole. So yeah, I had to take it out and split the clamshell to get the tool out.

So I got the RTV put on today reassembled everything and will let it cure overnight and fill and test tomorrow. So I am hoping that I didn't need to install any new shims or whatnot as I didn't pull the ring or pinion gear out of the housing. However I am worried I fucked something up. On the plus side I have two new CV axle seals.
