Got my antenna mounted and the cable ran into the cabin. This ain't going to be the finally setup but it'll work for a while. At least long enough to get me through the LNF trip next month. Still waiting on a couple of parts to show up to finish the install. And debating a few different places to install the radio unit itself. Hopefully I can get it all wrapped up this weekend.

Got the last piece I need to finish up the radio install. Now to find time to do it. This weekend is a bust so hopefully I can do it one day this week. Got an RJ45 switch plate so I can mount the base unit out of site and be able to plug/unplug the handheld unit as needed.

Looking at the Midland website and I see the radios are back in stock. Cool. Now I need to just make up my mind on if I want to mount the 3” ghost antenna on the roof or the 32” whip on a ditch bracket. I can’t seem to get an answer on which would be better...going to visit Ham Radio Outlet in Plano and talk to some guys and see if they can tell me which would work best. Sub-par comms is such a huge pet peeve of mine.

I’m not sure which would perform better, the stubby antenna on the roof shadowed to the rear by the RTT only when it’s on the rack, or the 32” antenna on a ditch bracket shadowed by the cab of the truck all the time. I’m probably overthinking it, but I want it to be set up to make the most out of the 15W radio without a 32” whip on the roof.

The antenna is pretty easy to swap out as needed. You could always run a little taller antenna when the tent is on.

I don’t think Midland has an NMO antenna between 3” and 32” tall. At least not that I saw on my phone. I’d like to stick to using their antennas because they’re probably tuned properly to work with their radios

Replaced throttle body on the Ferd, reset the codes, a much longer test drive tomorrow to see if I'm in the clear.

Finished up installing the drain lines for the bed cover. Also cleaned out my Pelican 1650 to use back there. Tossed one of those 247 piece DeWalt blow-molded tool kits in it, my recovery gear, jumper cables and some other small items. Just ratchet strapped it to the bed tie-downs. This way I can move it around or take it out if I need the whole bed.
