What have you done to your ride lately?

$525 later and all the parts are ordered for both sides or the rear axle. New bearings, seal retainers, snap rings, brake shoes, brake hardware, and the wheel bearing puller tool from Duane on eBay. Good thing is that tool will come in handy for any Toyota rear axle so I can use it on the 4runner. Hell might even post an ad on craiglist to offer the service to press on/off the bearings if they bring em over lol

I've got a pile of parts stacking up for my Tacoma and it looks like I need to add a new clock spring to the mix. A few weeks back, I put in a new horn fuse and the horn worked. The old fuse didn't look blown, but I figured it must have blown somewhere that wasn't in the viewing window. Then the horn stopped working again. It will intermittently work. The clock spring came up in several articles about the horn not working. Thankfully, the airbag light is not on and the radio and cruise control buttons still work. I was able to honk yesterday anytime I made a left turn.

Pretty sure that is my problem. What's another $200+

My current maintenance list:
CV axle swap (need to reboot OEM axle first. Had the parts over a year....lazy.)
LCAs (waiting until the CV is ready)
EVAP canister (need to get torx bits)
Sway bar end links (either same time as CV/LCA or maybe sooner since the vehicle is supposed to be on its own weight)
AC resistor (I'm just lazy. In my defense, I have to cut and splice in a new connector as the new ones are a square and not in-line)
Clock spring (need to order)

Current mod list:
Install AAL (need more jack stands. Plus, did I mention lazy?)
mount front camera and connect a switch (Get off my ass already! We all know I'm lazy)

Went to get my alignment checked and a rotation/balance on the tires. Shop found my driver side inner tie rod going bad so I have a new one ordered through a localish dealership and I'll pick it up tomorrow and then take it back for an alignment next week. Also took off the Spidertrax spacers and swapped the stupid stock Method center caps for low profile ones. After the tie rod and alignment, everything should be good to go for Colorado besides an oil change and a good detail before hand.

Ok, so you inspired me to do a little more digging before just assuming that it was the Clock Spring.

Found this video:

I checked a couple of things that he checks and got to the part about jumping the pins on the relay. Horn blows loud. I'm like 99%+ sure it is the clock spring.

I went down the same rabbit hole a few years ago. I ended up having a shop swap the clock spring. Not sure why now but it was the best option at the time.

Gave the runner a pre trip once over. Checked to make sure suspension bolts were tight, CV boots, belts and all that in good shape. Greased driveshaft and UCA zerks, lubed UCA uniballs, cleaned MAF sensor, and throttle body. Also put together a tool roll complete with a 35mm socket. Now time to spend the next 4 days packing and food prepping.

Did I miss the part where you checked all the electrical connectors, fridge, and state of your second battery to keep all the beer cold?

He did all that when he got the new fridge a couple months ago. Had to run new wiring and outlets IIRC.

Blake is right. I still plan to run another wire from fridge to fuse block with an Anderson plug.

Why the Anderson plug? I just cut the OEM fridge plug and spliced it into the wires to the fuse block.

The fridge has an Anderson outlet on it. Its more secure than the 12v cig plug. Plus they are pretty cheap so just do it right.

Gotcha.. Yeah mine does not have a cig plug on it. It goes straight from the fridge plug to the splice I made and then to the fuse block in the bed. Mine had the ARB funky plug on it and it broke the first trip out. Something fell on it and it broke like a house of cards. That's when I wired that shit direct to the fuse block.

Got the vinyl removed from the hood. That was a complete pain in the ass. Also got the Rad Rubber splash guards put on and I got the FrontRunner rack pulled off so it'll fit in the garage. Just have to get the adhesive from the vinyl off and then it'll be ready for paint correction, detail, and ceramic coat tomorrow. Also ordered a FrontRunner ladder yesterday. No clue why but they emailed me to tell me they were back in stock for immediate shipment so I caved.

The 4Runner came out looking awesome. No pictures because it looked like it was going to rain so I pulled it straight into the garage. But I'll get some tomorrow. They worked on it from 9am until a little after 6pm. Going to finish up the Redarc install tomorrow. And the winch disconnect and 1/0 cable for that will be here Friday so I'll get that finished up this weekend. Then all that's left is replacing the driver side inner tie rod and getting an alignment on Monday, a quick oil change, and she'll be all ready for Colorado on Sunday.

Unfortunately it looks like the vinyl on the hood ruined the paint under it. He did everything he could but couldn't get it back. Plus everything that wasn't wrapped had faded. It sucks but I'll just having rewrapped.

That sucks about the paint fade and vinyl damaging some paint.

Sounds about right for Toyota paint. Toyota's paint sucks balls.

Only reason the paint has lasted on my truck is because the entire thing (minus the roof) was repainted 2 years after I bought it. LOL The roof paint is pretty shitty though, even after being garage kept 95% of its life.

interesting, my paint (minus the scratches from pin striping on the trails) is still in pretty good shape.
