Once I was on a turbo prop plane going from Kalamazoo to Chicago in a Thunderstorm. The guy next to me was sweating bullets and I said to him, "I think we'll make this one."

He said, "The last time I heard some asshole say that, I landed in a cornfield in Iowa!"

He was a survivor of the Iowa DC10 crash.

Funny thing was I was a development manager for MD at the time and was responsible for the team that developed the check valve system so the number 2 engine could now blow up and the plane would still have hydraulic fluid to the controls. He and I spent hours together and ended up in Denver.

His bottomline was that he was no longer in a hurry and trusted no other airline except United.
