If I had another $1000 available I would do a SAS on it. I think it would be a sweet expo rig with a linked solid axle up front.

1000 lol, I remember setting out with a budget of 3k for leaf springs and that got blown out before I even started cutting

Hey; I said another $1000 so I figure it will run me at least $2000 but I know probably closer to $3000.

Should you ever go the solid axle route set aside about 5 grand for it, that's about the cheapest I think it could be done for and have a strong/reliable final product

Mocked up the side of my roof rack idea. I love cardboard for this stuff. Overall specs are I plan to use 3/16" x 3" flat stock for the sides, 3/8" x 1" flat stock for the base where it attaches to the roof, and 1/2" tube to build a frame behind the side for the crossbars to sit directly on. The top of the side rails will be 55" long so I should have no problem fitting my RTT.

More pics this weekend will explain better. I am really looking forward to getting this mounted up.

Recent office expansion at work required us to order a few more work benches. I snagged the box that the longest workbench was shipped in. I am going to store the rest of the cardboard in my attic for future use. It is hell finding a single piece of cardboard this large for template work.

So no; I did not get Drew's mom's dildo box.

Thinking of redoing the back by clipping the corners like the riser areas. It will make the whole thing match IMO.

I like the style. I like the rounded rear portion.

In retrospec, maybe a little more rounded to match the rear window.. but that is nitpicking!

Gonna need at least 4 shopping carts for this build

Getting kind of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy aren't you? But that might be an option. What do you think of painting it flat black with a silver pinstripe down the side of it? Good contrast?

I am going to pass on putting anything except crossbars in the middle. This pretty much for the RTT and when I have the tent up there nothing else will fit except for maybe a small shovel on back. I am still looking to add loops/holes on the front of the rack for brush cables once I get front bumper. I am also working out a way to have a small additional canopy on the same side as the annex of the RTT. It makes more sense to me to have my shade and tent entrance on the same side.

I saw an expedition rack on a LC, with rtt mounted, on the passenger side it had 2 large solar panels pulled out like a drawers, drivers side had a canopy that swung out 90 degrees and locked, so that the rtt could be used and the canopy as well like a lean to.

It was on either that overland website or an Austrian website, can't recall saw it 2 yrs ago, but I have a picture burned into my head because I thought someday I would build one like that
