No need to drop the drive shaft for the mismatched gears just don't engage the case on something with high traction

Okay; that will save me a little work. Hopefully I will have everything prepped and ready to go next week so as to make Friday night an easy start.

Any advice on swapping out the front clam shell? Other than just going SAS.

Get the truck high enough so you don't pin yourself between the clamshell and the ground. Not that I would know what it's like to be pinned between the diff and the ground.

Really? Didn't think that came around till the 4th gen but if AWD then you'd have problems with mismatched gears would have to run center diff locked and the front DS pulled

Think the front diff turns but does not apply power to the hubs until the actuators kick in. I will most likely end up doing both axles over a weekend.

So I installed a switch so as to be able to disable traction control/ VSC on my 4Runner. Everything worked great when I tested the switch with the dash open. Once I taped the wires and put the dash back together it quit working. The trac ctrl/VSC is disabled but the switch is not working to allow it to enable when the 4R is restarted. I am going to walk away and comeback to replace the ends under the hood one at a time. I just want to get this done before Jambo...

Installed a new switch today and verified it works properly but the VSC and ABS lights are still on. I used my multimeter to test continuity through the wires and fixed what appeared to be the bad end. The loop is now testing okay for continuity but the VSC and ABS lights are still on. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and still on. So - any ideas now?

Take out the switch. Life is better with out the VSC crap.

I drove it to work this morning and a few minutes away from the house to the VSC lights went out. Guess I will drive it around and see if it sticks.

Took me two weeks on mine as well, damn tree ray chewed the wire off the resi under the hood,
I pulled wheel sensors and all kinds of crap trying to fix and then the stupid fix was to drive it lol. I read that to reset takes about 1/2 mile and clears the code

Yes sir wish I would read that info from the beginning after fixing a few things

I plan to post up a write up with some better info, pics, and a link to a cheaper/better switch than a wrong-label Toyota switch. It will have some troubleshooting info along with it so as to provide full info on how to install and ensure it is working properly.
