Lol I do better than that in my v8 tundra

I did better than that in my 20yo Ford Exploder with AWD and a 5.0 with 200k on the ODO.

Toyota's 4.slow MPG's have always been poor. My buddy has a Solara with a 4.slow and his MPG's also suck.

My V8 4R gets about 16 around town. Down in Houston where they can barely spell "hill" I would get 19 regularly.

More goodies arrived today. Finally the locker will be fully functional and the solenoid will be protected as well.

I did some welding on the roof rack tonight trying to keep it cool and spacing out the welds to prevent warping. I also started working on the dimple sheets that will be going in between the uprights. This plate was a quick test; final product will have better spacing and a few more holes. I am going to try to replicate the space distance to dimple size ratio that Schrockworks used on the sliders. These are 3/4" dimples. I will probably make a test plate with 1" dimples to see how they look and work.

So I rolled 250,00 miles today on the way home from Ft Worth. It looks like I need to get ready to change the fluids in the diffs, service the supercharger, and get ready to decide if I want to try to tackle the timing belt or have a shop do it.

I am really leaning towards having a local shop do the whole timing belt thing and readjusting the valves at the same time. They are a local shop with a real good reputation with Toyota motors and they keep the valve shims in stock.

Today I managed to cut out all the plates, clean all the slag off the metal with a hammer and chisel in the right spots, and started final fitting of the dimple plates. Once they are fitted I am ready to drill and dimple them.

Timing belt is not bad. You can do it yourself for under $400 in OE parts or pay a shop $1200 and hope they use decent parts. Easy decision if you ask me.

If you are not in a hurry then I'd be glad to help but I have to get my garage in order before I could tackle it. Maybe we could just plan a weekend @Silverback garage since it was his idea.

If ya'll want to do it here just say the word. Maybe a weekend in later April (I'm having hernia surgery at the end of Mar so I won't be of much use for a few weeks or more.)

Timing belt isn't a big deal on those 3.4s being a non interference motor a broken or slightly off belt won't really hurt you other than down time. But I was sweating bullets when I did the belt on my tundra couldn't find the timing marks after I got the old belt off

You are supposed to mark the old belt / pulleys with a paint marker before you take them off. Then you can line up the ribs on the belt and transfer the marks to the new belt. I agree it shouldn't be required but it's cheap insurance.

and that right there is why I like @yotarob to work on my engine stuff. I don't do enough of it and don't have the patience for it.

I have heard a lot of horror stories around the belt change. My biggest issue is down time. I do not have enough available time to have unplanned down time. Any experienced help is more than welcome and I am willing to drive for it. Beer and food will be provided for work.
