Another SWB build

Hmm I'll have to check that site out. That electrical shit adds up quick that's all I know lol

I'm thinking 2 gauge should suffice for the battery wiring. I plan on getting either the ATO or columbia overland mount, both of which keep the batteries in the stock location. For now I'll add a little extra line to the single + and - cable to ensure there's enough slack when I fork up the cash for 2 battieries, an isolator kit, and the mount.

Snapped a few shots tonight. There are different bolt patterns between the double cardan end and the diff end of the shafts. The longer one is rear driveshaft from a 2001 4runner. The shorter one is out of a 1st gen IFS truck. The "H" part of the double cardan from the 1st gen looks much beefier I must say!

1st gen on the right

Double cardan ends matching bolt patterns

diff end matching bolt patterns

The two patterns are different though, double cardan on right and diff end of other shaft on the left

I'll take some measurements this weekend and see which shaft is in better shape to build up for the rear driveshaft. From my understanding the double cardan end should bolt right up the the Tacoma/FJ t-case but I'll have to check. Ideally I'd build both and use one as a spare :)

All my stuff is getting moved to the tool box....to make room for coilovers  whenever that may be lol.

It will not with the front shaft.......doubt it will with the rear shaft also.

I've read a thread where the 3rd gen 4runner bolted right up to the t-case so I'm hoping for the best.

If not I'll just have the flanges drilled.

Bumpers have finally arrived, 11 months after placing order lol

I also picked up a full sized spare today on the cheap and got it mounted and balanced. Dakota Definity MT. Over half tread and picked it up for $40 from a guy on craigslist.

That is freaking sweeet. I'm about to cut into mine to build something very similar. I'll probably PM ya about price. Looks awesome.

And then you can PM me! lol :)

I love that thing.

Thanks! It will look even better once it's mounted and the besides are cut :)

Yeah I thought Eric would never finish/start these things, about time is all I have to say lol

Sounds good I'll have to find my total somewhere in PMs. Eric hooked me up with free shipping for taking so long to build the thing so at least that saved me about $170 bucks or so :D

And then you can PM me! lol :)

I love that thing.

BTW that 3 bolt thingie you bolted your ARB to, mine vibrated and came off. :o But then again, I don't know how much open desert running you will be doing. I am certain you won't have that same 'problem,' but I figured I may mention it. :)

Oh when I say it came off, I should have said all of the spot welds failed. Once again, I don't think you have anything to worry about (other than me finding out where you live and me popping the hood and snatching that beauty!!!). :)

Ah rofl I should have known, I guess you have brought out all the weaknesses in the truck for everyone else to learn lessons! If that piece falls off I'll build something stronger, or just do more than tack weld the mount down lol

*runs to store to get locking hood pins* ;)

you order them from sierraexpeditions.com?

Got them from VTE warehouse. They sell the insulators and other accessories for the terminals as well. I think the sierra ones are square type connectors but these serve pretty much the same purpose. 5/16" mounting bolts to the terminals and 3/8" bolt for connecting additional accessories. A little better prices than sierra as well :)

Well my wiring is about 95% done. Only thing left to do is mount the winch solenoid pack under the hood and run some wires to it!

Here's a few more better pics from my camera rather than phone showing how I fit the 6 switches overhead. Like I said there ain't no room up there, I cut out most of the sunglasses holder but it still seems like it's holding up pretty well lol
100_0811.jpg

View from the side showing how high the wires stick up. I tried to tuck them in as best I could but with the heat shrink and daisy chain there's only so much bendin' you can do to get these bastards to fit
100_0812.jpg

Configuration of the switch bank

All the wires hooked up to the switches. Ran 18AWG for the lights and illumination and power circuit. For the winch I wasn't sure how much power the solenoids drew so I ran 12 AWG for those two switches. I left plenty of slack in case I need to troubleshoot in the future or re-splice or change anything around. Also notice I put small labels on each wire end, that will be key along with the schematic for tracing out any future wires
100_0813.jpg

Everything tucked up there with the console bolted in. The ARB harness comes in through the passenger side
100_0814.jpg

Here's where I spliced into the stock positive and negative terminals. Took them down as far as I could and butt spliced with 2 AWG and tinned them then heat shrinked.

Here's a closeup of the mil spec terminal, this bad boy is beefy and allows for multiple hookups of larger gauged ring lugs

Earlier tonight I took two test videos in the dark, not the greatest quality it was raining and I didn't have much light to work with but I was impressed how fast the compressor filled up my tire, I'd say slightly over a minute to go from 8psi to 34psi. That bad boy does draw some amps tho!

Your arm is going to get tired using the winch all the way up there! lol....

Looks just like mine.
