This may not be quite camping gear, but it sort of fits the bill.

I saw where someone was using this to fill up the little green single use propane bottles from their home propane tank. Those single use cylinders seem like they are fairly good quality...better than I would think should be single use. So what are y'all's thoughts on this? Good idea to save a few bucks and self-recycle your camping propane bottles, or terrible idea for _____ reason?

I keep trying to remember to get one of the adapters to fill the little tanks. Seems like a lot less waste if I can keep just three of them around without tossing out empties after each trip.

Ok, I'll bite.. I bought it. I have 3 20lb tanks I'll never use... well may use one for outdoor heater on the patio... but we have had that for almost 3 years and never used it. I can try to refill some little green ones for $8 and use that gas.

That's what my dad does, he's been using one for years.

Good to know. Now I just need to get out and go camping so that I can burn through some of those bottles so that I can test it out.

One of the guys I camp with has been filling his own tanks for years. I know he has bitched about the quality of the new tanks and how thin they are compared to back in the day. also remember him saying the "reusable tanks" suck

that said - remember you are not a pro so you should consider the cost of spending a few $$ for new vs the time it takes to get the education required to avoid blowing yourself up.
