So I traded in my XDm 45ACP compact today to get an XD Mod.2 9mm subcompact. This simplifies my life in that my sammich maker and I both carry the same basic pistol and mags now. In the past I have swapped around spare mags in the vehicles when we had to trade vehicles and such; that problem is gone. We went to the range this afternoon to get some trigger time on the new hole punchers. Both of us noticed that our rounds were impacting a little high and left of the point of aim at 10 yds. I confirmed this by shooting a three shot group from a rest with both pistols. Not the worst issue and definitely something that can be fixed with the sights.

I also ordered the Talon grip tape set for my Mod.2 since the grips are a step above slick. Now I will have to keep an eye out for a discount code on trigger upgrades. They are almost a double action trigger; but not in a double action pistol. The more I shot the more used to it I got, but the trigger in the XD series is not something I have ever enjoyed comparing them to my 1911s. Most importantly now my sammich maker is carrying a 9mm as a CCW instead of a Bersa 380 ACP.

*the thing that made it an easy decision to go ahead and get my XD 9mm today is that today is the last day of Springfield's Gear Up promotion. Buy a new Springfield XD or M1A and get an additional three magazines for free.

I carry the compact xd9 with 13rd, and a full size mag. I also have a day planner for that fishing weight that works great in business/college type scenarios. I have always used the factory holster, what type of holster do you/her plan on using if not the factory one?

Crossbreed IWB for great concealment and a Blackhawk Serpa holster for high OWB use.

As much of a 45ACP fan that I am; this little 9mm compact conceals a lot easier than the compact 45 I had.

Many years ago, I was at the range and HK representative was there, I shot a 45HK compact, holy shit that was nice, but it was like $1200 handgun, that would be the only 45 I would consider, but it is not as thin. The browning HP 9mm is my other go to ccw, heavier but indestructible, because the HP has no problems with the use of +p ammo, and using certain types of hp tipped ammo, it will mushroom out the same as 40cal or larger and has excellent penetrating force.

I took the two new pistols (and the two old ones) to the range with Taylor on Sunday. She got to shoot the XD9 I got her a couple months ago. It's not a good fit for her. Going to have to go with a single stack so we're going back in the next week or so to try out some of the loaner guns to see which one she likes best. However, I may end up keeping the XD9 for myself. That is the most accurate pistol I have ever shot. Sunday was the first time my XDS has ever failed me. Loaded up a magazine and pulled the trigger... nothing. Ejected the round and pulled the trigger... nothing. One more time... nothing. 3 lights primer strikes in a row. Same 230gr Aguila ammo I've shot out of it for the last two years. Theres a recall on them that's been out for years that I never had done. It's not for this particular problem but I'm hoping it will fix it when they swap the whole trigger group. The little Colt Cobra 38 Spl I won in the raffle a couple months ago was meh. It was accurate (well as accurate as a snubnose will be) but I just didnt enjoy it. But it handled well and the trigger was smooth as butta. I've decided to change up my pistols all in all. I've owned nothing but Springfields for years and I want to try some other stuff. I'm going to probably trade in my XD Mod2 full size 9mm on whatever Taylor decides she wants. Then sell the XDS (after I get it back from recall work and confirm it works properly again) and Colt to pick up a Sig P320 Compact .45 and another full size 9mm with a threaded barrel. Currently leaning toward a Beretta 92/M9. But I have a few more I want to put my hands on before I make my decision. Planning to keep the XD9 Subcompact in the arsenal for now. Can't get over how accurate it was.

What ammo in the 9?

I held an H&K VP9 today. By far my favorite of the several different full size 9mm's that I've handled over the last week. Going to have to start shopping around for a deal on one.

You'll love it until you squeeze that trigger. Bleah... An aftermarket triggers is a must. But by far one of the most ergonomic comfy handguns I've ever held though.

If you want a gun that's damn near similar, check out the Walthers. Best OEM striker fired triggers on the market, reliable, really ergonomic and parts aren't crazy expensive like the HK.

I've heard both sides. The trigger is either a love or hate thing. Seems to be 50/50 split.

Yeah for what you pay, you really should be getting a match trigger with it instead of the garbage it ships with. I was SUPER excited when they released the VP9 and was planning on buying one until I held it at the NRA show.
My best friend has the HK P30 and that gun has the longest, mushiest trigger I've ever pulled. My $25 BB gun has a better trigger than it does (not kidding sadly). An aftermarket triggers for that P30 is like $300+ lol so sadly he never really shoots it.

In general striker fire triggers suck off the shelf. I am looking forward to putting a PRP kit in my XD. The Talon grip tape should be here today or tomorrow.

My PRP is one of my favorite triggers I own! It's the main/only reason I haven't sold that XDM for a Glock 21 or a G41 lol

But I was ready to pay the price they were asking for the VP9 when it came out ($750-$900 IIRC???) and then I pulled the trigger on one and was disappointed. I mean if Walther can figure it out, then surely HK can...

This last round of pistol shopping my sammich maker and I both handled Glocks and she still did not care for the grip texture and angle. I am 50/50 on them - we carried them as service pistols at the nuclear plant and I shot very well with them there. I just do not care to grab them as a first choice.

Totally understand that point of view. I resisted/refused to buy Glocks for years until I shot my buddies G19. Then I was like "oh, I get it now". Also the fact that I can strip the pistol completely down with a pocket knife is a huge plus for me.

I would love to have a Glock 19 but I just cant get over the grip. It's like holding a 2x4 to me. By far the most uncomfortable gun I think I've ever held.

Understand that. That's why mine got shaved down and stippled.

But at the price the VP9's are now, go for it! For the price they are now, buy one and drop in an aftermarket trigger!
