@tx_shooter you need to skip that wedding. Is it family?

I'm here for the gang bang and holding out on a date change. Sons birthday weekend and he's not old enough for this trip.

How old is your boy? I'm taking my daughter, she just turned 7. We'll see how that goes.

He'll be turning 6. He can handle the camping part, the slow and long off-road driving part may test his patience which would test my patience.

Whiskey or Benadryl and android tablet

Yeah I'll bring a tablet for Kenna for the 9.5 hour drive up and back.. but not for camping unless its bedtime and I fire up Friday the 13th. lol

Ran this past the wife and she'd be ok with a delayed birthday for the boy. I'm going to seriously consider but remain non committal at his point. Haven't seen some of ya'll in a few years and Rich and Scott are on the list to go, which is almost like hell freezing over. Would be a good trip.

Lets rename this trip "Hell is freezing over... in search of the toothbrush inventor" Or something to that effect.

Anybody know the advantages of having APRS built into a Ham radio? I learned that I don't have a need for a quad band radio with just a tech license, so I've moved to dual band units. Now I'm trying to decide between the Yaesu FT7900 and the FTM100D. I just don't know if the digital aspects, APRS and GPS are worth the extra money.

The APRS is super cool.. I don't have it but have seen folks who did. Guy had setup a website his wife (or anyone who knew the link) could go to and it would show his location... it even had breadcrumbs for his route complete with how fast he was going and at what time he was there. I can see it useful on a wheeling trip. If you don't show up when you said you would the searchers could use it to pinpoint your last know location. To me it wasn't worth the extra $$... cause its not cheap.

I think the safety benefit of APRS is pretty neat. Between the two radios I am looking at, the APRS unit is $60 more. Just not sure how often I would use it

For $60 I would do it. Now to learn how to use it. Good luck man.

Maybe there is some type pirate software you can use to have it activate a signal and not pay for that expensive subscription

Not a recommendation just all a dream.

Y'all think this will be an annual/regular thing? I'd love to go, but our daughter will be about two months old at that point, I don't think I'll be able to go this year. I love that part of AR, so I'm kinda bummed I'm gonna miss this trip.

That's pretty dam cool. I'd never trust it for uses like a PLB, but for what it's worth I'd get those options if it was a lifetime payment not subscription. Even Cospas-Sarsat systems don't charge for subscriptions, but they don't have fancy options. Just a single "save my ass" button lol

If any of you guys hear of any new PLB stuff let me know. A new systems supposed to be coming out but I don;t stay up on the tech. Think it's called Meo or Meow or something.
