This is true, I've been I guess storing too close to my shop then just on the lean to area. It does keep it dry and on concrete so I think the risk of bug/termite infestation is low. For my next round of loading, I guess I'll find an alternate spot.

Your stuffs PT so you'll be better protected than my non treated studs. I was just amazed at how much they can eat in one winter. For all I know they could of been there for longer, I'm just assuming it was my wood because the mounds were right above the wood storage spot. Thats another thing I did on the derp that's biting me in the ass ~ Putting a high quality shed on top of a stone base is tarded. Not only has it created a habitat for animals I don't want living under it, but the bottom of all my siding is starting to rot out. I put gutters on it but they only protect two sides from splash back. Next shed is going on top of a concrete slab for sure. Would of been less work and more money to do it in concrete but I was broke at the time so chose to cut corners. Now I need to spend more time and more money fixing my silly cost cutting mistakes.

I store wood in a 96gallon trash can that I plan on using or keeping dry, I have seen termites in that can before, but I keep it away from the house.

I do that for my kindling. Got a 50 gallon trash can on wheels I roll out to under my trees to collect all the branches that fall off. Think if I decide to stay in this house Ill build something along my fence line to store wood on that will keep it elevated and dry.

Dang that sucks. Think you've lost more trees this year than I have living.

You planting any more?

I just planted a 12" tall Holy but that's about 10-20 years away from being a real tree. I really wish I had planted some trees in the rigtht spots 15 years ago when I cut down over 20 that were in the wrong spots.

Only 1.5 inches of rainfall last summer in a span of 14 weeks was brutal on the plants/trees.

Yea, thats not enough for sure & the weathers only getting crazier.

I got some sprouts where I'm patching my lawn. I'm not buying any timers or automated sprinklers so it might dry out come summer if we get a drought. Once it gets a little taller Ill switch from 3 light waterings a day to one good long watering so I can promote root growth before the summer sun scorches it. I only put grass seed in one small spot thats under a tree. If that takes good Ill do the rest in fall when I should of patched this spot.

My other bed is native plants and native wildgrass so hopefully that stuff takes with little watering and summer isn't an issue. Just planted that this past week so maybe in a week or two it will show signs of growth.

Came home this evening to a hot house. Apparently the drier on my discharge line rusted through and sprung a leak. Luckily I had some scrap copper and I vise so I could rig up a coupling to get me cooling again lol.

Both trees are down, limbs are pilled up, hopefully we will have some good weather conditions to burn. My Boys got their Athletic Credits in today.

First time to find one of these guys, pretty cool with the blue, yellow and red spikes. He was relocated along with another one I found later in the evening.

These Hickory trees were probably 40 to 50 years old.

I hope you are saving the wood for the smoker or fire pit.

yep a little bit of both. I have around 3.5 cords now, with another large willow tree being cut down next week. All the wood I have now is oak. I need to get some cherry as well, but finding a cherry tree to chop down is a little harder and I'm not paying those prices people want to charge for split cherry wood lol

The winds we had last night at my house were worse then I got from Hurricane Sandy. Wind also came from the East and that's not normal. When I was driving home from work about a mile from my house I noticed an huge swath of trees all knocked down in the same direction from strait line winds. Later that night I hear a commotion, look out my window, and watch 1/4 of my 6' tall wood fencing blow down on one side of my yard. Ended up losing (3) 4x4 posts that cracked, and one fence panel that split itself in half. Another (4) 4x4's were under so much force instead of cracking they pushed over and popped the concreted bases out of the ground partially. Good news is that fencing was schedule to be replaced this season anyway....bad news is Ill be patching it up tomorrow when I wanted to be kayaking, but it is what it is. Not sure what I can do to keep the posts from moving again, but this is the worst Ive seen it in 15 years so I guess Ill just dump 80# of concrete in the holes instead of 50# like I did when I put it up way back when.

Just goes to show you how crappy big box store wood is and some things are best left to the pro's. Bought my house 16 years ago and 3 of 4 sides were fenced by professionals with pro materials. Then I added the 4th side. Since I added it Ive replaced so many pickets I can't count them and at least 4 posts prior to this windstorm. The other 3 sides the pro's did has needed nothing. Over 3x more fencing and 1000% less BS. Ill be coating the new posts with diesel and oil prior to sinking these in and also going to run the concrete about 2" above the ground with a small form (cut off from a bucket lol ).

In Texas, at least Tarrant county, they started requiring metal posts instead of 4x4s. The cost is a little more up front, but they don't rot out like wood.

In Georgia, where termites are apparently a MAJOR problem, every fence pro looked at me like I had lost my mind when I asked about metal posts. It's just not a thing out here.

Damn! Gone up in price too. I think they were something like $13 each when we redid our fence in TX. YARDGARD 2-3/8 in. x 2-3/8 in. x 8 ft. 16-Gauge Galvanized Metal Fence Corner Post-328944DPTS - The Home Depot

Never buy the those from box stores, too expensive, buy them from a fence supplier, bring a sawzaw and cut onsite.

That sucks man. Time to call the pro's then to come fix it while you drink a cup of coffee and watch em lol

I priced up vinyl a few months ago and almost fell out of my chair. Of course it was top of the line fence that will hold up to 120mph winds and that's durable so it doesn't crack or grow mold in 5 years like the crap vinyl fencing does.

Thinking band aid tomorrow then time to make a decision and either decide to keep this place and rent it or sell. Been wishy washy for WAY too long. If I keep it Ill install good stuff that will last. If I make a plan to sell I need to set goals, a budget, and stick to it - then more than likely Ill repeat my past and install more crap fence just so perspective owners with animals or kids don't need to worry about it + no way in hell I'm leaving my yard unlocked for people to walk and see into.

If the fence itself is in good condition and the post is the only problem, a bandaid could be to just put a post on either side of the broken posts.
