This is true, I've been I guess storing too close to my shop then just on the lean to area. It does keep it dry and on concrete so I think the risk of bug/termite infestation is low. For my next round of loading, I guess I'll find an alternate spot.
I store wood in a 96gallon trash can that I plan on using or keeping dry, I have seen termites in that can before, but I keep it away from the house.
The wind just started here about 15-20min ago, looks like I will be cutting up 2 more good size hickory trees.
Dang that sucks. Think you've lost more trees this year than I have living.
You planting any more?
I just planted a 12" tall Holy but that's about 10-20 years away from being a real tree. I really wish I had planted some trees in the rigtht spots 15 years ago when I cut down over 20 that were in the wrong spots.
Both trees are down, limbs are pilled up, hopefully we will have some good weather conditions to burn. My Boys got their Athletic Credits in today.

First time to find one of these guts, pretty cool with the blue, yellow and red spikes. He was relocated along with another one I found later in the evening.

These Hickory trees were probably 40 to 50 years old.

I hope you are saving the wood for the smoker or fire pit.

).In Texas, at least Tarrant county, they started requiring metal posts instead of 4x4s. The cost is a little more up front, but they don't rot out like wood.
In Georgia, where termites are apparently a MAJOR problem, every fence pro looked at me like I had lost my mind when I asked about metal posts. It's just not a thing out here.
Damn! Gone up in price too. I think they were something like $13 each when we redid our fence in TX. YARDGARD 2-3/8 in. x 2-3/8 in. x 8 ft. 16-Gauge Galvanized Metal Fence Corner Post-328944DPTS - The Home Depot
That sucks man. Time to call the pro's then to come fix it while you drink a cup of coffee and watch emThe winds we had last night at my house were worse then I got from Hurricane Sandy. Wind also came from the East and that's not normal. When I was driving home from work about a mile from my house I noticed an huge swath of trees all knocked down in the same direction from strait line winds. Later that night I hear a commotion, look out my window, and watch 1/4 of my 6' tall wood fencing blow down on one side of my yard. Ended up losing (3) 4x4 posts that cracked, and one fence panel that split itself in half. Another (4) 4x4's were under so much force instead of cracking they pushed over and popped the concreted bases out of the ground partially. Good news is that fencing was schedule to be replaced this season anyway....bad news is Ill be patching it up tomorrow when I wanted to be kayaking, but it is what it is. Not sure what I can do to keep the posts from moving again, but this is the worst Ive seen it in 15 years so I guess Ill just dump 80# of concrete in the holes instead of 50# like I did when I put it up way back when.
Just goes to show you how crappy big box store wood is and some things are best left to the pro's. Bought my house 16 years ago and 3 of 4 sides were fenced by professionals with pro materials. Then I added the 4th side. Since I added it Ive replaced so many pickets I can't count them and at least 4 posts prior to this windstorm. The other 3 sides the pro's did has needed nothing. Over 3x more fencing and 1000% less BS. Ill be coating the new posts with diesel and oil prior to sinking these in and also going to run the concrete about 2" above the ground with a small form (cut off from a bucket).
