I joined July 2010... but took a year off here and there. I'm never steady on social media or forums. Few years on - few years off. I'm on here more now because I'm off of every other type of media right now. No fakebook or any other forums, so sorry but you guys and gal get to hear my craziness at full blast.

The lack of need for rules because most of us can handle heavy conversations and disagreements in an adult manner is what keeps me here. I know some of my ideals are crazy to others and vise versa, but we all get along/handle our disagreements pretty darn well IMO.

Although our work searches any/all social media prior to hiring people I can't see how not having an account would be a disservice to you, your reputation, or your resume. I'm not even sure what they could legally dredge up if your security is set high. Thats a question for our IT gurus.

I guess in this day and age some may find it hard to believe you don't have one or they may think you're anti social. Who knows... in my mind I'd think it would be favorable because you're out living real life, not living vicariously through others bullcrap. I call if fakebook for a reason.

Checking FB during the interview process is really an HR double edged sword. I know a few customers that have reprimanded employees due to social media action but only because they were still in their work uniforms.

I know a LEO who lost her job due to a FB post. Luckily she was young when it happened so she moved a few towns over and got a similar job w/o losing much.

If I had any gubment job Ill be damned if I had any social media accounts. No sense risking your livelihood over some posts.
